“Not worth your time....”

Reviewed 10 August 2017

There's nothing bad about this Church, it's just unremarkable. True, there's a Tintoretto, but, to be fair, he churned out pieces like this one by the dozen. Move on-nothing to see here!

This is a beautiful church, well worth a stop, in fact, you should go here instead of the domKirk as there's a lot of construction going on there and you may not get as wonderful of a view as you're willing at this church. It's a nice place to sit and rest as well

This is another of the four churches all within a short walk of one another. This church is beautiful. I walked in just as a daily Mass was beginning. It was a wonderful break during a marathon day sightseeing. This is also, like all churches, ideal for a quiet few minutes for meditation.

Discovered this church by accident. It's fairly plain looking from the outside and it could be easy to walk past and there weren't throngs of people around it like the main cathedral in Bamberg. The plain outside revealed a stunningly beautiful interior. Words (and the pictures) don't do it justice.

The Katholic Pfarramt Unsere Liebe Frau, Parish Church Of Our Lady, Bamberg dates from 1375. The painting "The Ascension of Mary" by Tintoretto is the most valuable work in the art there and is at the rear of the church. Don't overlook it as I did. It is a large tombstone shaped painting with Mary in dark red surrounded by a circle of angles, guiding her from the earthly domain of people towards the skies. Fortunately, Bamberg is a town I shall visit again. Just be mindful of the parking tickets. I was in an area near the cathedral where the signs did not make it obvious that I would be in violation. There were plenty of other cars parked there for as long as I was, but I had a rental car from Munich, so the license plate gave away that I was not a local. Fifteen euro wasted. The church is certainly one that fans of the Baroque should not miss, and it is a ten minute walk down a slight slope from the cathedral and schloss.
