Description: Authentic atmosphere-feel, sit with the locals and enjoy really good German food -"get to the point" waitresses. Trout was excellent, juicy pork meat with sides of sauerkraut & boiled potatos, the apple dessert (local speciality) was fantastic - crispy baked slices - YUM. Very affordable for the 4 of us, 3 course dinner with a round of smoked beer & local white wine with main course @ Euro 22/pp.

We arrived for a late lunch and were warmly welcomed by the staff. Their english was limited but was enough to help us order as menus are in German.
We tried Bambergs famous smoked beer (locals drink it for breakfast) not a favour\rite of mine, I preferred the white beer.
To eat there was 4 f us and we chose to share the Wiener Schnitzel pork flank and fries12 Euro and Bamberg Skillet for 2 persons for 28 Euro which included pork shank and shoulder, bratwurst sausages, potato dumplings, fried potatoes, sauerkraut and cabbage. It was sensational, I can not recommend highly enough. It was a Bamberg highlight. On another note the shopping in Bamberg was great!!

Dined here fot lunch on Easter weekend. The place was packed so we were seated at a table of two other German couples. We ordered the smoked trout which was Gluten Free and I had the Bierhaxe, the pork knuckle braized in beer. To follow the beer theme I had a famous smoked beer, or Rauchbier. It was all extremely delicious and filling as are most German meals. The place is quaint and obviously popular. A nice stop to fill up when visiting the wonderful city of Bomberg.

We dined here on April 8th at around 8 pm. I am writing that as I hope the manager sees this and is able to address our experience with the server; she was our worse experience at any restaurant in Germany. We really enjoyed the food, and the smoked beer was delicious. But the service was downright hostile, and we did not return for that reason. We chose their competitor next door for two other meals (1lunch, 1dinner). The server chastised us for ordering a smoked beer in Englsh, slammed our drinks on the table, snorted when we ordered the Franconian skillet, and chastised us again when we asked for water. We decided to make a joke out of it rather than getting upset. We were over the top polite, just to see if it would soften her up a bit--it didn't, the food was indeed amazing, the outdoor patio is lovely, and the beer is fantastic. But the middle aged woman with dark hair and glasses should not be working with the public. She's truly awful. If you sit down and are approached by her, you may want to treat her rudeness as a joke as we did. Otherwise, she may well ruin your evening, as she did for four other people sitting around us, all of whom got up and left after she chastised them for various issues.

As this was a last minute trip we did not read much ahead (I know) about where to eat and stumbled upon this place looking to have a late afternoon beer. Oh WOW. Yes, we stopped in for the drink and then asked if we could stay for dinner having seen what people were receiving. I have been coming to Germany since 1981 and now live about 45 minutes away (frequent often) - I have never had German food this great. Traditional as it gets, the servings are generous and hot. Our group of three had Jagerschnitzel, Brawurstteller, and Grillteller, plus 2X Strudel Eis, 2 X Beer, 1 X Wine, 1 X Coffee and 1 X Schnaps - the total bill with a including a 20% tip 70 euro!!!!!. You just cannot beat this place - we loved it. We sat with two gents who were out for dinner (no, we had no idea who they were, but it is the way they do it there) who seemed to encourage us to join their table making us feel very welcome. The service was fantastic, the food excellent, the decor extremely traditional for a Bavarian Gasthaus - Perfection!
