Very interesting house to view. We did a tour on our own. We read the booklet and went round all the rooms ourselves. The attic was my favourite room. We spent an hour here and then wandered down into the centre ville. Will read some Jules Verne when I get home from holiday!!

Thank Sam P

This was a lovely, quirky little museum well worth the 10 / 15 minute walk from the cathedral. It’s a house rented by the famous author for a decade in which he wrote some of his best known stories. Full of moentos, books, scripts photos, movie posters and more, it’s a fantastic evocation of the life and output of an author whose imagination was clearly well ahead of his time. The loft space was particularly wonderful and I loved the models of his famous flying machines. Nice too to enjoy see what a provincial French town house of the late 19th century was like. Favourite of all though were the 2 chairs and a sofa where, Verne, Victor Hugo and Dumas all sat – there’s a chair pedigree for you!
My only gripe was that there were no copies of any of his books in English to buy in the shop – my son was very interested in buying a couple and I realised I’ve never actually read any of his books – you kind of think you have because you’re so aware of them from films!
Toilets but no café – we ate at a Tabac on the corner of the main road from the centre on the other side of the junction from the house – burgers, sandwiches, croques – which was absolutely fine!

Houses where famous people lived tend to be a bit boring. But in this case the house is fairly big, with many rooms. The rooms are all in a nice style. Within the rooms there are many exemplars of Verne's books, displayed quite nicely. There are also some nice references to his work, such as a small submarine. A lot of background information is provided. The house is not very well indicated. I practically walked past it when searching for it.
