“Beautiful Accomodation”
Reviewed 26 June 2012

A delight to drive up too after a long journey in the car, the house is stunning with lovely grounds, plenty of chairs and loungers to relax into and although we did not make it into the pool it looked very inviting.
My friend and I only booked for one night and arrived early evening into Sarlat, our first thoughts were we wished we had arrived sooner to take a dip in the pool and enjoy the lovely grounds.
The owners were very welcoming especially Martine who was very chatty over breakfast the following morning, Jean Luc recommeded some resturants and we had a fantastic meal at Le Bistrot in Sarlat because of this recommendation.
The room we stayed in was clean and simply decorated to suit the house, the bathroom was lovely, we had the bathroom with the low roof but it did not matter at all as we are both short !!
Breakfast was simply yougurt, bread and crossiant but very tasty and exactly what you expect in France.
Yes there in a walk up back to the house from town, it took two reasonably fit women in their 30's 10mins to climb up after wine and food :-) and the walk is worth the accomodation.
All in all a great stay and well worth the price.

We stayed seven nights and eight days at Maison des Peyrat, located about one kilometer above Sarlat. As many have mentioned, the hotel is an historical structure lovingly restored and tastefully decorated. The photos on the website really do not do it justice, and especiallly the surrounding gardens, a panoply of trees, flowers, and song birds. Our room was large and immaculately cleaned each day of our visit, and the price for the room very reasonable; we would have felt we received value even if it were twice the price. Martine and Jean-Luc, the proprietors, were wonderful, warm and entertaining hosts. True, the walk into Sarlat is downhill and, conversely, the return uphill, but, if you take the short-cut Martine recommends, there is only one steep grassy bit of about 30 meters, then a gradual grade into Sarlat that only takes 10-15 minutes. One of the best places we have ever stayed. A pastoral retreat minutes from centre ville.

What a find! Jean Luc and Martine couldn't be nicer or work harder to make this hotel a highlight of our trip. Such a peaceful and bucolic setting, I really would like to stay for months. The rooms are charming and rustic, the bathrooms updated and very nice. The pool was heaven sent after a long day on the road.

we were looking forward to staying at this hotel after reading the reviews but were very disappointed. We arrived on a wet afternoon so did not see the hotel in its best light. We met the owner Jean Luc who appeared not to speak good english and there was no warm welcome.

The room was clean and basic and the bed comfortable.Unfortunately the shower was not wall mounted and attached to the bath taps which I found difficult. There was a smell outside our room which we never did find out what it was.

Next day we met Martine who was very friendly and helpful and gave us lots of good information about the area and where to eat etc. The breakfast was a disappointment and although we were expecting a continental breakfast we thought the quality quite poor and next day went out to get breakfast
On reflection we feel that the poor weather may have influenced some of our impressions of the hotel but there are some things that can be improved

Room Tip: Go for a larger room

Both our rooms' bathrooms were very large, tiled and nice with wonderful classy Roger & Gallet soap. The bedding is extremely clean and smells good too. The area on top of a hill is very quiet. The owners, Jean-Luc and Martine are dedicated to offering great service and "green" quality food, but they do not expect you to impose every single of your desires going opposite direction to what they provide. They take great care of their place, and do not want you to treat it like a cheap camping site. There is no other breakfast than what is provided, which is wonderful croissants, jams, yogurt, butter, bread, orange juice and tea or coffee, to be taken outdoor under shaded trees or inside in a very charming dining area. There is no ham, cheese or other things. You are not expected to eat sloppily in your room and leave a ton of trash to cleanup after you while avoiding to pay for a breakfast. If you want to eat something else, just go to a local restaurant if they can provide that. Also, you are not expected to bring your wine and bottles of beer and leave all the trash to clean up, or destroy the bamboo flooring with wine stain. The owners sometimes open their kitchen and cook dinner if there are enough people present and interested. If so, enjoy it, because it is delicious. But do not expect them to do it for 2 people only. The owners are very educated and politically/socially engaged people, and would happily get into any conversation with you, if possible in French or broken English, spanish. Just enjoy the passionate conversation and respect their place as your own. You will NOT be disappointed. These are wonderful fun people and provide a gorgeous place to stay at.

The area around Sarlat is full of beauty and historic places to visit, such as Collonges La Rouge, gouffre de Padirac, Rocamadour, the famous prehistoric Lascaux II, and many other sites.
