We were a 3 generation family in this comfortable gite in lovely surroundings with a shared pool - much appreciated in the heat. It's quite a distance from the major tourist spots but the places recommended by the owners were great. Would be 5 stars but for me being a light sleeper - noise carried through the wooden upstairs floors!
We visited La Roche Chabrelle for two wks this summer with our four children. The gite was simple, clean and had everything we needed and more! There were baby gates at the top and bottom of the stairs and also high chairs, a baby bath and potty all supplied. The swimming pool was well kept and had a fence around it with a gate which locked. This was a godsend for us as we have a 1 and 2 year old! The older two children aged 9 & 7 loved the amount of space and freedom they were allowed. The cave was brilliant on the days where the temperature was hitting 40 degrees as it was lovely and cool. There are woodlands and caves to explore, a football pitch and badminton net. The children were worn out every day!
We visited a lovely river beech about 40minutes away, which had a park, bar and restaurant next to it. There was also a high wire course and archery there, which was very well organised and safe.
There was canoeing nearby and some very pretty towns such as Brantome.
I would definitely go back, the owners couldn't do more for you but also gave us the space to enjoy our holiday!
We arrived late on the Saturday night and were met by Charlie (owner) who showed us our accommodation which fulfilled our requirements. We were a party of 6 with three small children so having two showers was great. The gite is only 200m from the pool which is ideal with young children. Absolutely stunning views from the gite, across the countryside. Very quiet area and relaxing environment.

We stayed here for the 1st week of our 4 week holiday and it was just what we needed, the gite was rustic, great for the swimming pool as it over looks the pool....the views are beautiful and it's great for star gazing as it's so dark at night! It's tucked away but not cut off from anywhere. I had a moonlit swim when Charlie left the lights on in the pool, lovely! The gite is well equipped with everything you need and spacious. The kids loved the cave and the badminton and in the gite were some boules so they played that with the lovely French family in one of the other gites. Pam and Charlie are around if you need them, not intrusive at all and on hand with any information you require....we would definitely return to see them...we've had a great holiday!
A lovely gite where everything you need for your stay has been thought of in advance and provided for you. A beautiful setting with lots of butterflies and lizards to spot along with a vast variety of other flora and fauna much enjoyed by both children and adults alike. Great facilities including swings, badminton nets and small football pitch to name just a few. The pool was a great hit and on a warm night the owners kept it open for an extra couple of hours which was a lots of fun. There's also lots to see and do in the local area, you could probably stay a whole summer and still not manage to do everything you want to!
