“Wonderful accommodation and location...great value.”
Reviewed 21 May 2012 for a stay in May 2012

Just spent 2 days/nights at this lovely resort overlooking Vieste.
Recommend it highly. The accommodation exceeded out expectations...
The view was spectacular. Each unit comes fully equipped with an outdoor patio or balcony.
Gaetano could not have been more helpful.
Pool and other amenities were great.

“A gem on the Italian coast - without the price tag!”

We have stayed at Residence Chiesola twice now in the same group of four (2 couples), in 2010 and 2011; we plan to visit this year too. Our initial recommendation for this area came from a Lonely Planet magazine article which compared the area (though in a slightly more rustic fashion) to the Amalfi Coast. Having visited the Amalfitana several years ago and falling in love with this fabulous coastline, Gargano in Puglia then became high up on the ‘to do list’.

After an extensive internet search, we decided upon Residence Chiesola. The website for the accommodation is full of information and Gaetano (the owner) was very helpful and keen to cater for our needs, both over the telephone and via emails.

Airport options for the area include Bari and Pescara. Although it’s a little further up the coast, Pescara seems best option, as the route is much more direct and includes more major roads. Car hire from Pescara is inexpensive, though with most Italian road surfaces, you feel a bit safer and more comfortable in a mid-range + car.

On both occasions we’ve arrived at Chiesola to a sun kissed, white washed residence in a Mediterranean style, perched on top of a hill with a view over an olive grove to the old town and coast. Though Vieste itself may not immediately strike you of the Costiera Amalfitana, you will undoubtedly come to appreciate, on investigation, its history, charm and the relaxed lifestyle within the town.

Gaetano’s accommodation is exceptional value for money. The residence was built in the last few years and is in pristine condition. There are many apartments available of different sizes. A quick note; if you choose the sea facing apartments (top floor are the best and personally my favourite) you get both a balcony at the front and back. This is a real bonus, as the front of the residence is east facing and therefore, though you get the sun at the front early in the day, you also get sun at the back in late afternoon through to the evening.

All accommodation includes firm and comfortable beds, a good shower room, kitchenette come living and dining area with sofa bed, dining table and chairs, television, fridge/freezer, gas hob and all utensils required….oh, and balcony with table and chairs in every apartment. Also, there is the added benefit of PVC glazed doors with shutters too, guaranteeing a good night’s sleep (if like me, you need total darkness to sleep well!).

The pool area is perfect, with a good sized pool for either brisk or gentle lengths, very nice recliners with sun visors, parasols and also a very smart pool house with coffee and snack vending machines and an ice cream bar which I think is open in the height of summer – there is Wi-Fi here too. In the hot summer months, they will close the pool area for around 1½ hours at lunch for safety reasons, but it can be stiflingly hot there, so not a bad idea.

It is also extremely peaceful. We have visited in September, on both occasions, when it has been very quiet. The weather can change a little come mid-September with some rainy days, though the sun will still shine and a tan is definitely on the cards!

The town area is a longish stroll from the residence or no more than a 4 or 5 minute drive. The town has some great local restaurants and bars (we’re great fans of Al Cantinone for dinner and L’Incontro for morning coffee/late afternoon and early evening drinks – with huge platters of complimentary savouries and people watching).

The twisty-turny cobbled streets in the town are lined with charming boutique shops and are a perfect area to shade from the midday sun or for pre/post-dinner ambling in the evenings.

To summarise, if sunshine on the Italian coast with an affordable price tag fits your bill, then Vieste and the Gargano are a perfect retreat and Residence Chiesola, a hidden gem to complete your stay!

My partner, myself,my son and his partner have stayed at La Chiesiola on two occasions,
Sept.2010 and Sept.2011. We shall return again Sept. this year. This place is superb!
The apartments are roomy and well equipped. Each year we leave feeling that we are leaving our own homes.Everything is incredibly clean and the view from the terraces over the Adriatic and the old town are fabulous. We spend our days by the pool in the beautiful Italian sunshine and our nights our in the old town.A huge bonus for me is that i can run my business from the poolhouse with the benefit of wi fi.Gaetano and his family are not only very welcoming but have certainly not stinted on spending what has been required to complete a fantastic small development.Last thing..... Sitting on the terrace on sunday mornings listening to the broadcasted singing and service from the main church is fabulous !!!
