First impressions, this is a grand hotel. We'll furnished, high ceilings and good location. However as with all old hotels it needs a good refurb. The electrical wiring is dated and not upvto modern travel adapters. The bathrooms require grab rails in the
narrow bath/showers. The breakfasts were the best meals. Evening meals varied between good and average. Beware the balcony balustrades. Don't keen on them due to surface cracks. Finally new travellers to Italy beware of travelling on buses. They have introduced a new ticket system. This ticket has a QR code to be read by a scanner on the bus. However the ticket is produ ced on flimsy paper and must be folded for the ticket to slide into the slot to validate the ticket. Failure to do so is a 60 euro fine and they are training inspectors to pounce on tourists for this failure. Otherwise a good location but only worth 2 to 3 day visit. Any longer and you run out of things to do. Finally along the promenade, beware the cycle lane it is filled with electric scooters and cycles travelling at speed. Enjoy your stay in Viareggio.

This a grand hotel in all respects.

Lovely sea view room on fourth floor with small balcony

Efficient and friendly staff -especially Andrea on front desk and Barbara in the dining room.

Excellent breakfast and dinner - The early evening Aperitivo by the bar was a very pleasant surprise.

This hotel is very beautiful and an icon of the landscape. Marble staircase, tiled floors, beautiful gardens.
The service is excellent, the staff work very hard and are very friendly. Particularly waitress Elena! The lifeguard is also very friendly and hardworking.
The pool is nice and the loungers are very comfortable with face sun shades. The pool did turn our swimsuits green? Perhaps chemicals out of balance? Quite a bit of green algae round the edge, maybe time for a deep clean.
The food was not to our taste - we found the meals quite bland. I wouldn’t choose the half board option again, but there again the food in the local restaurants wasn’t that great either. The wine was very nice.
The rooms are immaculately clean with good air con. Tip - you need an Italian 3 prong plug adaptor to use most of the room plugs (different to a standard EU plug).
The beach chairs included are at Anita across the street - a great beach club, worth using.
The area is right on the beach front with lots of cafes and restaurants and some nice fashion stores. There is not much else. You can catch a bus to Pisa which was fairly easy and quick.
I feel the average clientele of the hotel and of the wider area was slightly older so if you’re looking for a quiet calm break, this one is for you. If you’re looking for slightly more energy and activity, perhaps not.

We stayed at this beautiful classical hotel for a week, it was amazing from start to finish. The staff were fantastic! Marco by the pool was great! Marco in the restaurant was amazing! Young Alexander was fantastic! The food was perfect! We always pay for food but mostly eat out but this time we ate in the restaurant every night! We were astonished by a few embarrassing Brits who was complaining about absolutely everything! It was embarrassing! The hotel staff couldn’t do enough they were great they made our holiday! The hotel is spotless. We’ll definitely return. If your looking for a Benidorm all you can eat for 7 euros down bother! But a friendly clean fine dining restaurant where there’s a bus stop outside and plenty to see it’s ideal. Nicolas in the cocktail bar is a credit to the hotel he’s a diamond.

My friend and I recently spent a week here. The reception staff were really helpful, we had many queries for them about the buses, trains etc. They printed off timetables for us and gave us instructions where to catch the bus after buying the ticket in the local tobacconist shop. The food was good and all the hotel was really clean. Part of the beach across the road is sectioned off for residents and there is a nice beach bar/cafe where you can get a lunchtime drink and a bite to eat from an extensive menu. This hotel was recommended to us and I would not hesitate to recommend it myself.
