Stayed here for the week while walking in the Dolomites. Breakfast and Dinner each night. Very comfortable hotel. But most importantly the staff (Bas and Fabio) could not do enough to please. The chef was superb. (not sure of the spelling Luka ?) but Luka gave us a culinary feast every evening.
For the food alone one would be happy to stay.

Room tip: ask for front with balcony

This is a modernised 111 year old hotel which has retained all its old world charm with well-chosen modern facilities and decor. It is in an ideal location in S. Cristina, just 4 minutes' walk to public transport which will take you to most places in the valley and beyond (e.g. Bolsano or Brixen). It also leaves you near many of the ski lifts which operate during the summer. Bedrooms were comfortable and kept spotlessly clean like the rest of the hotel. The staff were brilliant; nothing was too much trouble for them including the chef who produced meals which should have at least one Michelin star!

Room tip: Rooms at the front have a great view. Those at the back are cooler in summer.

To start with the positive things. This hotel is well over a 100 years old, the interior looks completetely renovated. It is very comfortable, the rooms are generously sized and the bathrooms are just fine. The hairdryer seems to be italian standard - not what I'd expect as a hairdryer, but it does work ;)
I had a room with a balcony to the street, which had a great view and it was not noisy.
The bar area is nice with a fireplace and a mixture of nice leather couch and chairs.
The skibus is, depending which bus you want to take either just across the street or a few meters down the road (2 min max by foot).
Skis and boots are not kept in the hotel house but also across the street.
The staff is very nice and helpful.
Negative Points go to: The Bar, they had no idea what a "white russian", a "whiskey sour" or a "sherry" is. But the standard stuff was ok (beer, wine).
The worst in total though was the food. Despite the region which is known for a good kitchen and great food we had mostly below average served dishes, not even nicely arranged. I have eaten better in my company's restaurant that serves > 2000 people a day. One evening fish was supposed to be served and we got fried crabs with fried octopuss rings. The sizes were fairly ok and you didn't leave the table hungry but in total the dinner would not reflect the 3 stars nor the price. The breakfast was just bottom-line ok.
Wellness area: Sauna was full with 5 people, resting area had about 6 chairs which were of course too few for the amount of guests.
Summary: Nice hotel to stay, quiet, good situated to ski bus / ski resort but next time I'd book somewhere else due to food and wellness situation. It would be acceptable for 15-20 Euro less per day.

Room tip: ask for a room with balcony to the street - nice view of the mountains

We stayed in hotel Wolkenstein for a ski holiday in February 2015. The hotel used to be known for its great après ski bar, but this bar recently closed.

What's good:
- Spacious and tidy rooms
- Friendly waiters and bartender
- Ok breakfast buffet
- Heated skiboot storage

What could be better:
- Sauna is too small and easily overcrowded
- Dinner was extremely disappointing
- Distance to slopes is quite far (>400 meter) & uphill on return
- Ski room is not very secure
- Reception desk is often unstaffed and service is not very flexible

Room tip: Rooms on the upper floors and south side are quieter

Yes the floor squeaks just inside the door to Room 209. And the musty smell in the shower drain disappeared with our first shower. And it's not the best choice for someone with limited mobility. Side facing the street has pleasant view. Other side looks out at the side of a hill. Stayed four nights during the International Volksmarching Convention and would gladly stay again. Plenty of atmosphere in this 100-year-old hotel. If you want something nicer you WILL pay more.

Room tip: Make sure you get a room facing the street -- not the hill behind the hotel.
