“Overpriced food and drink and isolated if no car”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 November 2011

Stayed for week in may. Staff very pleasant and helpfull. Nice clean and bright hotel with lovely pool but would not go back. No atmosphere in hotel and at that time of year food and drink prices very high. breakfast was very poor with alot of processed packaged food. Restaurant food at night wasn't great. A car is a must. Taxi's crazy expensive and road to dangerous to walk.

We had booked Porto Cervo as we had been previously 4 years ago and fall in love with the place, on booking this hotel I did have some reservations due to some of the negative comments. Firstly people have mentioned drinks at the bar, we were expecting these to be extortionate...but I believe that 4 euro (or 6 euro with waiter service at pool) is not in the slightest expensive and would say was about the average price for Italy (and it was nice wine too)..We were also a bit worried about taking our own brought bottle to our room, but when I asked the very helpful barman to borrow the bottle opener, he insisted that I brought the bottle down for him to open and gave me 2 chilled glasses. The hotel is in a beautiful setting, the pool area is pretty and well kept with comfy beds, the gym, although had limited numbers of machines, was great too. The bar /lounge area was fantastic and very pretty. We did have a small issue with our room that was sorted quickly, efficiently and politely by staff, and we were extremely pleased with our room. The private beach was cute, but when you are in the Costa Smerelda most of the beaches are stunning, it was still a nice addition to the hotel. The staff were smart, helpful, polite and courteous. A tip for travellers, if you are looking for an all inclusive cookie cutter type boring holiday then perhaps this pretty, quaint boutique style hotel is not for you. If you are looking for a fantastic hotel, reasonably priced in a stunning part of the world then definitely book.

Room Tip: If you are goinf to anywhere in Porto Cervop, hire a car becuase you will be missin out on a fantast...

Only 2 problems with this hotel. We booked online in January for a holiday in September and on the hotel website the offer was half price rooms, we booked 2. When we came to settle our bill we had been charged the full rate, which happened to be higher than the rack rate on the day. However when we queried the bill it was dealt with in a most professional manner and, although the staff seemed to have no knowledge of such an offer, it was sorted with no fuss and we paid the half price rate.
The other issue is the restaurant wher there is only a table d'hote menu which is expensive @ 35 Euros and proved to be too much food to enjoy comfortably. It would have been nice to have the option of only 1 or 2 courses.
Otherwise the hotel was excellent with comfortable rooms, lovely pool area and its own private beach. The staff were very helpful and attentive.

We had a de luxe room with balcony overlooking pool and with perfect view of the sea which was truly beautiful. The room was comfortable and clean with super bathroom, best in any hotel we have stayed in. We found the food to be excellent despite some trepidation because of other adverse reviews. The menu for dinner changed daily and was imaginative. However fussy, a guest would be hard pressed not to find something to his/her taste. Breakfast was less imaginative but always plenty of fruit. On the negative side we thought the bar was extremely expensive but the lunches in the restaurant were good value; not really any dearer than we are accustomed to at home. On another negative note we thought that dinner being served from 8 pm to 10pm was rather late. Other guests expressed the same views. Wine at dinner was also expensive but we found that a glass of house wine at 5 euros was good, bearing in mind that they were usually generous and the wine every bit as good as the bottle of Sardinian wine we chose on our first evening, which had been recommended by the head chef. It was not good value at 29 euros and the same wine was sold very cheaply in the supermarket. So we opted for one or two glasses of wine each which at 20 euros (4 glasses ) is not exorbitant. On the down side taxis are extremely expensive - 30 euros for a return trip to Porto Cervo village. We walked and did so four times. A tip is to go via the beach thus limiting exposure to the traffic. We are not youngsters - 76 and 71 respectively so unless infirm anyone can do it.! Ideally a car is required and we wouldn't choose this location again because of that but otherwise we would return to the hotel and the island, which in the north anyway, is extremely picturesque. Another tip for those without a car is to take the free ferry from Porto Cervo village to the marina where there is a supermarket etc and a bar - Lord Nelson- with much cheaper drinks than in Porto Cervo although we only sampled the coffee - 1 euro cheaper than in PC village. Another slightly negative note is that the hot water in our room was never really hot - not too disastrous on hot days but might be in cooler weather. The staff were excellent and very friendly

Room Tip: Our room on the 2nd floor with balcony could not have been better.
