We booked this hotel as the Grand Menaggio Hotel was fully booked. I can echo what the other travellers have said - if you're on a package holiday (we were with Inghams) you're treated like second class citizens.

The staff are rude (with the exception of a very pleasant female receptionist) and the waiters speak little English. There was confusion about what drinks we ordered, and if meals are included it's bland and stodgy food. Some meals were totally inedible and we heard many others complain. You're forced to sit at the same table each night through the back. When we asked if we could sit closer to the lake we were told that's a la carte only.

The room itself was modern if a bit small and with VERY creaky floorboards. We were lucky to have a lake view. The safe didn't work and there was no kettle/tea making facilities which was disappointing considering they tried to charge us for taking a pot of hot water up to the room. The (complimentary?) bottle of water in our fridge on arrival was half empty. Drinks are expensive - charged for tap water and a can of Diet Coke is over €3.

The sun loungers by the pool collapse without notice. Someone warned us of this when we arrived so I couldn't relax as I was anticipating my lounger breaking!

I wouldn't stay here again, and as others told us, there's a BIG difference between 3 and 4 star hotels.

Really surprised at all the bad reviews of this place. We booked about an hour before arriving due to complications with our original hotel in Lake Como and we were just blown away at the location for the price of what we paid. Could have spent hours sat on our balcony looking at the view. People have moaned about the food and I can't comment as we ate out as found lovely little Italian restaurants but we did have some drinks in the bar area and found the staff most accommodating. We have stayed in lots of hotels in Italy and the breakfast is always the same so I can't say any different about that but it's certainly not bad enough to be shouting about on here. Ok the shower is small, there's something I can fault. Genuinely couldn't fault anything else. Absolutely loved Lake Como and the town of menaggio and definitely will be back. Not sure whether to stay in Bellagio next time though but if we do come back to Menaggio would happily stay in this hotel! Best location ever! Wish we spent more time here, we were sad to have to leave.

We booked in good faith through Thompson. The setting is lovely and the views are breathtaking. The hotel staff are very rude. The food is revolting tried two nights but now given up, despite the rep trying to talk to them. If you want a holiday in faulty towers without the humour this is the place.
Even on a hot day the pool area is empty as they will not even serve coffee or water there.
The worst hotel I've stayed in.

We came across this hotel by accident, we had actually been looking for a different Hotel Bellavista (which we found via booking.com, was much cheaper). When we questioned the price at reception, we were told the hotel we wanted was about 40 mins away and we would need to take the ferry - after a chat we decided to just book the room anyway.

The hotels location is the reason you pay the money, amazing views! The pool area was nice to lay out on the sun and the pool very refreshing. We found all the staff very pleasant and all able to speak English. We did not stay for any meals, including the free breakfast. We walked into the town in the evening and found plenty of cheaper restaurants to eat in.

No tea or coffee in the room, very small tv which we didn't use. The bathroom was nice and the shower very good.

The room was tiny, but was clean and had a working safe. We were able to park our motorbikes in the hotels underground car park, which is opposite the hotel.

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday, where we stayed at Bellavista for 7 nights.
The hotel is tired & dated and in urgent need of a complete makeover.
Our room was on the first floor with a great view and a large balcony, but the room was dated.
The rooms were cleaned every day and the towels changed, no problem with the room staff. However the towels and bath mats were old and in need of replacement.
The beds were small and uncomfortable with blankets rather than duvets provided, old fashioned and not what you should now expect in a 3 star hotel. The safe did not work.
We arrived on a Saturday, the lady on reception on that day was pleasant, and assisted with the parking we booked, which is underground, over the road and 10 euro per night, again all fine with this.
We had the misfortune to use the hotel restaurant on the Saturday evening, whilst the view from the terrace restaurant is beautiful, the same cannot be said for the food.
It was of poor quality, tasteless and bland. We did not return all week.
The breakfast was no better, poor quality limited choice, other guests complained the same re the quality of the food.
The staff other than those mentioned above were miserable and failed to engage with the guests, as a result we never used the hotel facilities at all all, after eating the poor breakfast.
To sum up our visit, a poor hotel in a fantastic location that is definitely not value for money if you book as we did interdependently.
The main clientele appear to be coach parties on package trips, suggesting a cheaper rate being paid, hence we suffered from this as independent travelers.
Would I use the hotel again, definitely not.

Room Tip: Level 1 lake view
