Little train very useful way to get around . However the seats don't those with boney bums. We were lucky to find the stop on the way back from Lenno. It was market day so train diverted. Information from driver would have helped! In spite of all of this I really enjoyed our trip. What a fabulous place

The ride itself is ok comfortable and fun.
However, we were left stranded around 5 km from our hotel at night, simply because it had slightly rained for 10 min few hours prior. We had bought return tickets (8 euro/person) from Gabenabbia to Menaggio and travelled at 6 pm. At 7.30 pm there was small rain for 10 min. At 10 pm the train did not come to Menaggio Lido stop, leaving us stranded at Menaggio. Getting a taxi big enough for our whole group (6 people) took some time.
The next day, we asked for partial refund (as we hadn't ended up using the return part of the ticket), but were declined this. The driver said that because of the train the train service had been stopped. However, it states explicitly on the poster of the company that "Train does not run in HEAVY rain or storm" (The caps is at the company poster). The rain was by no means heavy.
So overall - unreliable. Use only if you dont mind getting stuck at night.

It's a fun way of getting along the lake side, a lot easier than walking, especially as there is no footpath at times and though very "touristy", it is an interesting trip.
Costs are reasonable, 8 euros for a return trip.

We got on this train and asked for a return ticket and the driver only issued a single and would not correct his mistake. He was very grumpy in the extreme and should not be in such a position where safety and peoples enjoyment are concerned. The experience put us off so much that we made the return trip by ferry and it was most enjoyable. A further contact with this horrible man was in a cafe where he came in at lunch time and made himself so offensive to all around him - even the cafe staff said take no notice of him as he is a nasty man.

I hope the train managemnt take this on board. It is the first time on trip adviser that I have to write such a poor report!

I paid 16 Euro for 2 return tickets on this bone shaker, from Menaggio to St Lorrenzo Church. I stated my required destination to the driver. The train failed to stop at the Church and carried on to Lenno, where we made the return journey and this time the train did stop at St Lorrenzo. After visiting the Church, we walked to Villa Calletta and visited the museum and gardens. We returned to the train stop at 5 minutes past the hour, in readiness for the 12 minutes past train to see it passing by. The driver was obviously in a hurry to be back in Menaggio for his lunch, so he could have an extended break. As the train would not be around again for over One and a half hours, we walked the 3 km back to Menaggio in the blistering heat. It could have been OK if the timetable had been observed.
