You could not possibly visit Puglia or Lecce without see this, just extraordinary. Like a mini Place Vendome in Paris...with a Duomo.

Loved the guided city tour visit to the Duomo. Beautiful architecture, interesting papier mache statutes. Didn't go down to the crypt but it's possible for a small fee.

I must confess that after a frankly underwhelming experience with Venice, I'd assumed Italians charged to see their history, but did little with it. Lecce generally is proving me wrong (thankfully) time and again. The pizza approach to the Duomo is stunning, all the more so because you chance upon it from tiny streets. The church is a good working one, and the artworks impressive and we'll maintained. For me the crypt was the best. Musicians will appreciate that if you stand in the centre if the columns you will find a perfect acoustic. Humm even the quietest note and you can fill the space. You can imagine Da pacem do mine intoned down there a millennium ago easily. Take your time on the main body of the church as the detail can overwhelm at first. Stunning.

We were too late in the day to go inside but any visitors to Lecce must go to the piazza outside the duomo. The buildings are simply breathtaking and beautifully lit up at night.

There was a wedding in process during our visit so it was festive...great pipe organ and stained glass windows...lots of shops and restaurants around the piazza as well...
