This hotel, like the resort of Gabicce Mare itself, is family friendly with a mainly Italian clientele. We didn’t get off to the best start being shown to a room which was tiny, dominated by the double bed and with a ‘bathroom’ which can only be described as a tribute to the plumbers who managed to fit sink, toilet, bidet and shower unit into such a small space. We made a request for a room with a bath with the reception who immediately said other rooms would be available for viewing the next day. We upgraded to one of the best rooms in the hotel which gave us two differing views of the sea and a much bigger bathroom. The room would probably still be seen by some as smallish.
The hotel is well placed overlooking the substantial and, of course, perfectly manicured beach. It is a one minute walk through a steep wooded path down to promenade and beach. There are two pools, one reasonably sized for mainly adults and a small plunge pool for children – both heated.
The town is a five minute walk down the road – or via the promenade. There are good bus links - both local and special ‘toy trains’ - to other places and the walled town of Gradara is certainly worth a half day’s visit being only 10 minutes away by bus.
The hotel’s strong points include the excellence of the reception staff who all speak very good English and were helpful and informative at all times – for instance allowing us to reserve our return flight seats via the front desk computer.
Other correspondents have mentioned the food and we endorse their praise. The breakfast had hot and cold choice and when we mentioned wanting some fruit on one occasion – a bowl of fruit appeared on our table every morning. Being on half board meant an evening meal. The starter was a differing buffet of cold meats, vegetables and fishes every evening followed by excellent variations of pasta and then main dishes with a particular strength in the variety of fish dishes. The deserts included cakes, cream dishes and ice creams. Full marks to Maitre d’ Maurice and our waiter Pascale.
A final flourish of the excellent reception staff performance was when they allowed up an extension on the last day free of charge.
