I think you would only find this delightful restaurant if you had someone local to show you. That indeed was our fortune. But I am sure the visitor in Brunico could enquire with the TI and get directions, it isn't far and the experience of eating South Tyrolean food is well worth the effort. We sat in a room overlooking Brunico far below. The service was immaculate and the food excellent. You should try the entree called Tirtlan, it is a spinach and cheese pie and is delicious. The locals eat it with their fingers, so take heed!
Try it out, you won't be disappointed..

Sitting slightly above the Town of Brunico, you may find you have to travel into the woods and along a very narrow road to reach Oberraut - persevere; it's worth it

Many of the restaurants in Brunico close early (approximately 20:00/21:00), but Oberraut remained open and we were delighted to be able to dine here. En route to Oberraut we were granted terrific views of illuminated Brunico - it was lovely seeing the town light up at Christmas.

In utter simplicity, Oberraut is typically Austrian, from the wooden decor, to the food; from the charming ambiance to the dress of the restaurant staff. The staff are welcoming and attentive without giving the feeling of being hurried.

The food is delicious with quite a lot of game on the menu. We enjoyed roasted goat's cheese with vegetables for entree, and deer for the main dish. The deer was glazed with honey and incredibly tender. We didn't have enough room for dessert, though we were keen to try !

We experienced a very enjoyable (and somehow, relaxing) evening; we left feeling most content ... highly recommended.

Fantastic restaurant overlooking the whole Bruneck valley. I was lucky enough to eat at this restaurant a couple of times over the last few months. The food is just so well done , they do a lot of game dishes and anything fresh and healthy from that region of Alto Adige … Order anything - or better EVERYTHING ! A wonderful place with wonderful staff . If possible get a table outside -- not that the inside is bad in anyway -- but you just cannot beat sitting out in the sun looking down onto Brunico..

You don't need a Michelin star to be an excellent restaurant, Oberraut proves this. It can easily match many Michelin restaurants, the food is exquisite, the service great, and the surrounding fabulous. I would easily put this restaurant in the top 10 of Southern Tyrol. We have been here a few times and it has never been a disappointment, every time I was impressed with the quality and the original decorations of the food. They manage to stick to their origins by preparing typical Tyrol dishes and elevate it to haute cuisine. perfect!

Hard not to get impressed by the beauty scenario in which Oberaut has found its nest. The forrest, the two gooses brave guardians, the lovely and delicate historical decor of its small dining rooms , they are all reminiscing of the good old days.
You shall beook in advance here, as this restaurant is quite well known and attracts a strong community of regular guests ,also locals .
Staff is very friendly, service is enough quick and wine list well done and with correct mark ups. Up to here all will be enough to deserve a five star rating , but food has yet to come . I must admit , I am not fond of deep fried things, and here it seems most of them are coming with something fried, A superdelicios beel tartar was the best dish of the dinner. Inconcludent wild sald with fresh cheese ( fried again) , a deer goulasch just so and so and the desserts that are better to be avoided .
So you will enjoy your occasion here, the location alone and the service are worth the extra drive to reach this restaurant, still the food can be better and in this part of Italy competition is quite high.
