“a conference weekend”
Reviewed 7 November 2011

I went to the Gritti for a weekend and had a good rate all included. I had a double room with single use, a nice
room similar to many others but it did have a kettle and tea/coffee etc. which is unusual in Italy. The dressing table top was very cracked which did not look very nice, however they were at the end of the season and closing once we left, so that could be the reason it was not mended. The room had a balcony with table and chairs but I had no time to be there, I could see lake Garda from the window and had
some lovely walks in the sunshine along the banks. The hotel is very large and has nice places to sit both inside and out, there is an outdoor pool and a spa. The food was very good and so much choice but I see what NonnaB2 means about a 4 star hotel and buffet service, I thought it was for the conference. The staff were pleasant and helpful though and there was plenty of food. Bardolino itself is a nice place and I took a
€2 little train ride around the place which was nice.

the park hotel gritti is situated at the far end of Bardolino but is a gorgeous walk to the quaint bars, restaurants and shops. the food at the hotel could have been better and i would have preferred to eat a little later but the restaurant shut at 9.00pm. the pool area was lovely and clean and the sunbeds plentiful.
the rooms were a little dated but all in all a very good hotel in a fantastic resort. Lake Garda and Bardolino were stunning i cannot recommend the resort highly enough and the Gritti hotel was a good place to stay.

Lovely holiday with exceptionally hot weather so the pool at this hotel was well used ..... by the local ducks as well as the paying guests!! Room comfortable with good balcony, but marble tabletops in room all badly stained which made them look dirty. The food selection was plentiful BUT, for a four star hotel, waiter service especially at dinner would have created a better atmosphere than the frenetic hustle and bustle of hundreds of guests - some with walkers and walking sticks - trying to make their choices. It gave the impression of a holiday camp rather than a four star hotel.
The location was excellent, although Bardolino seemed more popular with German visitors than Italian. The staff were helpful, the gardens were well kept, and the "afternoon tea" service was very popular.
All in all a nice hotel but have stayed in three star hotels in other resorts on Lake Garda which were every bit as good.

Just returned from a lovely holiday in Bardolino. The area is 'traditional Italy' with its small romantic streets, lots of restaurants and cute shops. The hotel itself was brilliantly situated within easy walk to the town and sat on the corner of the lake. The staff couldn't do enough for us, we received complimentary champagne, chocolates and water on arrival to our room. The bathrobes and slippers are a nice touch to! Our room was a generous size with a balcony looking out on to the garden and was cleaned everyday. We stayed bed and breakfast and found a wide variety of hot and cold food every morning, we also took advantage of the complimentary tea and cakes available from 4-5pm (yummmy!) Unfortunately we didn't look at the spa till the last day and wish we'd gone to it before, it was very luxurious with a heated indoor pool, and spa etc. We went on 3 day trips whilst there (Venice, Milan and Verona) and found the staff at reception very helpful with booking these and helping us find places in the area. We were lucky to book the week the wine festval was on in Bardolino and found it cheaper to drink water with dinner and then hit the festival after for wine- 1 Euro per glass! It was a great atmosphere with bands and music to suit all ages and tastes, the lake is beautiful at night with all this going on. Overall, a great holiday and hotel- if you have been put off by past reviews please reconsider as you will have a lovely time, I promise!

We stayed at the Gritti from 10 -17 September, as the Catullo, which is our favourite hotel in Bardolino, was fully booked.

First impressions were good, receptionist was very pleasant, but when we got to our room, the air conditioning had not been switched on and it was unbearably hot. We had booked a 'privilege' room as these have been re-furbished but it seemed just like a standard room we have had in other 4 star hotels and certainly not worth the extra £200+ each we had paid for it. The main problem though was the heat. We have been to Bardolino in September many times and it has never been that hot before - the hotel thermometer showed over 40 derees at one point. Our room was on the top floor facing south and got full sun from noon until sunset. There was no canopy over the balcony so it was impossible to sit out there in the afternoon or early evening and the air conditioning, once we had switched it on was totally inadequate.

The room itself was nicely decorated and there was plenty of storage space, although the safe was on a very high shelf - I had to stand on tiptoe to reach it! The bathroom was compact but with an excellent shower and a hairdryer that actually worked reasonably well.

We ate in the Anunzio restaurant as this was smaller and quieter than the Cipriani, although the menu is the same in both. I say quieter, but the incessant loud 'muzak' did rather spoil the atmosphere. The Head Waiter was very good although he seemed rushed off his feet and all the other waiting staff were very pleasant. The anti pasto bufffet was excellent, everything you could possibly want but the hot food was limited and not always hot. Wine was excellent and reasonably priced although the wine glasses were very small and cheap - not 4 star standard. Breakfast was reasonable although the variety of fresh fruit was lacking and the same fruit salad appeared every morning and evening and the coffee from the machine was dreadful.

Afternoon tea was served from 4 till 5 in the garden and was very popular although the same old biscuits, swiss roll and tart came out every day (also available at breakfast!)

Bardolino is a lovely place which is why we keep returning. There is so much to do, there are loads of decent bars and restaurants and it's easy to get about the lake on the boats which are very reliable. Staying at the Gritti we felt rather out of it - couldn't understand why so many people sat in the bar in the evening listening to the dire 'entertainment' when they could have been in the centre of the resort enjoying the atmosphere.

So, we wouldn't stay there again but we will hopefully return to the Catullo.

Room Tip: If you don't like full sun from noon until sunset don't choose a room on the top floor, numb...
