To be honest, we only booked this hotel because most others were fully booked due to this being a long public holiday weekend. We were driving from Faro in Portugal, to Bilbao to catch the ferry back to the UK and needed an overnight stay en route. The hotel, as the adjective 'Rural' suggests, is off the beaten track and took a bit of finding. However, after checking in, we were offered great hospitality and made to feel very welcome. We were the only non-Spanish guests but all members of staff did their best with limited English skills to explain menus etc. Our dinner was excellent. My husband and I both opted for meat as we had noticed that the surrounding countryside was heavily populated by cattle! Our fillet steak and lamb shoulder were cooked to perfection and we had a great bottle of wine at a very reasonable price.
Overall, we found the hotel to be cosy, quirky, welcoming and good value and would return there on a future road trip through Spain. On a future visit we would probably stay longer to do some walking and explore the beautiful surrounding countryside.
