“Beautifully located to explore the Isles of Scilly”
Reviewed 27 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

The accommodation was exactly as advertised and was right next to the ferry pier to take boats to all of the various islands. It was easy walking distance from shops and restaurants - very helpful when self catering. The accommodation was well presented and very comfortable with everything you need for an enjoyable self-catering experience.

“The Fo'c'stle - a period cottage in the heart of St. Mary's.”
Reviewed 5 August 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We have just come back from a great week at The Fo'c'stle in St. Mary's on the Isles of Scilly. We were blessed by great weather, so who needs the Maldives. After a thrilling flight from Lands End, we got a transfer to the cottage. The location is about as close as you could get to the harbour where all the boats leave from in the morning, opposite the Atlantic Inn and only 50m from main food store on the island (Co-op), so very convenient for everything.

The ground floor has a spacious living room with a modern TV and wi-fi, separate dining room with board games, and a modern galley kitchen. The latter is well furnished with washing machine, dishwasher, oven and microwave and all the kitchen utensils you could want. Little things like having tupperware containers for picnics on the beach made self catering easy.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms, two were quite tight with two single beds, but the master bedroom was a good size with plenty of storage. The sash windows overlook the main street. My only criticism in the whole week was that because of the high street location, there was a bit of noise when the pubs shut, but it didn't wake the children.

Outside there is a little sun trap of a courtyard with a washing line and room for wet buckets and spades.

We had a great week and went to a different island every day, except for a day we hired a golf buggy to see St Mary's. Top tips are the soft sands of Rushy Bay on Bryher, and swimming with seals on St Martins. The holiday was all about beach cricket, buckets and spades and pub lunches. We will be back, and if there are six of us again would go to the Fo'c'stle.

Liked best: Location - two minute walk to the boats in the morning when in a hurry, and when tired after a long day on the beach.
Liked least: Rooms a little dim downstairs, but small windows to be expected on cottages that are hundreds of years old and with thick, thick walls.

“A comfortable week in a beautiful place”

Very central holiday cottage in Hugh Town, well situated to get back to the quay for boat trips, etc. We arrived on the Scillonian, must admit we're usually OK at sea, but on this day probably 80% of the boat was feeling 'under the weather'. My wife was fine and I'll never hear the end of that!! We explored the island by bike and by electric buggy, we had brought our bikes which proved to be useful .... the best beaches, etc., were 15-20 minutes away. The main problem with the cottage was the TV, it did not have a roof aerial and every passer by interfered with the picture and this road going down to the quay is very busy ... basically it is the place everyone goes, either for the Scillonian or other trips.

Liked best: Central location
Liked least: Furniture wise everything was 'getting on a bit', though it looks like the owner is modernising (new kitchen).

Many thanks for this review. We hope to have the TV aerial sorted out by 2013. The problem in the past has been gusty Atlantic winds
