We are almost addicts to Sant Marti d'Empuries which is just a wee walk northish of L'Escala.
Roman ruins carefully excavated and preserved? Yes! Before that, Greek ruins carefully excavated and preserved? Yes! - All except for the Ancient Greek jetty that still stands proud out into the Mediterranean Sea. Still there to see, admire, sunbathe beside or just see.
Within the main centre of Sant Marti is an old church with bells that still work perhaps twice as well as others. I will leave you to work that one out for yourselves when you visit.
The other aspect of the main square is a group of restaurants that among them probably do the best Spanish cooking ever.
Which is the best? Well, you might say which after trying them, but I couldn't possibly comment.
They are all fantastic and budget friendly.
