The house is in a rural setting but not without neighbours. It is surrounded by a large garden with fruit trees. There were delicious plums and pears. There is a good sized pool which is heated at a very comfortable temperature and not shared with anybody else. The house itself is spacious with lots of character and reasonably well equipped, however two of the bedrooms are on the small side and rather dark. There is comfortable garden furniture and a barbeque.
However, on arrival we were disappointed about the level of cleanliness and general maintenance. It was obvious that the property had not been cleaned properly for a long time, dishes and utensils were filthy, bathrooms not clean, grass not cut, with fallen fruit and dog poo on it, debris in the pool, fly nets torn, faulty lightbulbs not replaced... That was the first impression and we did not expect that. After we had spent a few hours cleaning and asked for things to be rectified we settled in and enjoyed our stay. But things do look worn and tired and would need some attention to make this place really attractive. If you travel with small children you need to be aware that the neighbours' dogs (though friendly enough) get into the garden (one disappeared with one of our children's favourite soft toy) and the pool is entirely unfenced. You should also be aware that the area is heavily farmed and you may get smells and noises relating to that. All in all a good place to stay, but in need of some care and attention.
We stayed at the Forge for a week before moving on to another house. We had a fantastic week. The house is beautiful and very homely with everything we needed. Paul welcomed us and gave us some handy tips. The welcome pack was a lovely surprise. The pool was lovely and warm, the best pool we have had. We would definitely stay at the Forge again.
