Peaceful yet convenient location in easy distance to outstanding beauty surrounding the cottage.
The cottage is particularly comfortable and spacious and equipped with everything needed for a self catering holiday.
Beds are great.
Will be re booking
Just returned from a long weekend in the Faulkner, one of five lodges within Vulcan Lodge just outside Rhayader. What an amazing spot! The site of the lodge achieves that elusive combination - peace and tranquility without a sense of isolation (a rarity in my experience as a solo female traveller). Some lovely touches on arrival - a supply of essentials including milk, tea, toilet rolls and soap, and (excellent!) a bottle of wine. But not to worry if you've forgotten anything else - there's a shop and cafe less than 100 yards away. Perfect for fetching the papers and, if the mood takes you, a bacon roll! The beds are sooo comfortable it's a bit of a pull to get out of them in the morning - bedrooms are well appointed with some very nice touches (put the light on and check out the light shade in the master bedroom) and the lounge, with its double doors onto a balcony with table and chairs, has comfy furniture and a great tv. The kitchen has a dishwasher for those lazy times, and a freezer, if you're planning a long stay. Having two bathrooms is one of the things which sets this lodge apart from others. Congratulations also to the owners for supporting local artists, with several of their works on display, and info on them in the pack left for guests to peruse. Great if you're wanting to explore the beautiful Powys countryside, including the Elan Valley (if you're a Brummie, this is where your water comes from) but equally good if you're just passing through, being on the main drag though mid Wales. This being mid Wales however means that there's no traffic noise and you can just hear the river, which is just beyond the trees at the back of the site. Ideal.
The cottage is perfect for 3 or 4 people, pet friendly and all on the ground floor.
The location is perfect and nearby all the beautifull lakes like Elan valley, Lake Brianne, Lake Clywedog,.. and still close to the black mountains aswell.
Nothing to find fault with. Dogs made welcome, and all amenities in cottage are very good. Endless supply of hot water for showers and very good fully fitted kitchen. Beds comfortable and bedrooms well appointed. Owner on hand to give helpful information and tips. Warm, cosy, quiet, peaceful and well equipped, what more could you want.
There are times, not many, when you find accommodation which is so good you would like to keep it a secret. But that would be unfair to Elaine and her Vulcan Cottages so let's share it.
As an extended family spread over 3 generations and comprising 14 adults and 4 children we needed all five cottages and they all exceeded our expectations. Each one individually unique to cater for differing requirements in terms of numbers and/or access and in the Middleton there was room for us all to congregate in the evenings to eat and chat. All immaculately decorated and furnished and with a welcoming pack including a bottle of wine!
The area around is beautiful and there's plenty to do and see whatever the age group. The weather over the May Day weekend wasn't brilliant but for the older family members the sightseeing and scenic drives around the Elan Valley and into Aberystwyth over the mountain road made up for that. And the second generation with their children found the local activity centre a bonus - for both them and the children.
All in all a great weekend and one that we hope to repeat at Vulcan Cottages again.
