“Perfect place to get away from it all”

This lovely warm cosy cottage suited our need for an end-of-season getaway and we spent a happy week relaxing and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. We found it easily from the directions given and the owner was there to hand us the key as soon as we arrived. The décor and kitchen amenities suited us completely; the bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and nicely decorated. Lots of odds and ends in the kitchen for cooking and cleaning that you wouldn't normally expect and very handy to have a washing machine. The plumbing is a mystery, though (especially the loudness of the shower and toilet in the next door property) and, like a previous visitor, we struggled with our own shower at first. Visitors should also be warned of the occasional F-16s thundering overhead from the nearby USAF base at Lakenheath - very exciting! We didn't really use the garden because it was very wet and muddy but we loved driving through Thetford Forest and walking at Brandon Country Park - recommended. We would stay here again.

“Lovely and welcoming”

The owner was helpful and welcoming. A lovely afternoon tea with home made slice welcomed us on arrival. A large garden with abundant apples and plums was an extra bonus. Cottage was roomy and the kitchen was adequate for our needs. This was a great location for us exploring the Fens and we used it as a base to go Aylesham to the show, to a beautiful performance in the Ely Cathedral and to Norwich. A lovely place to explore a very interesting part of England.

“Ok, but not more than that...”

This cottage was just ok. The garden was lovely but the cottage itself was not what we were expecting as per the description and the price. The owner was away while we were there but said if we needed anything to call her friend. The location was very remote, 25 minutes from Mildenhall, 45 from Cambridge. The mobile (cell) service in this area is non-existent. So no way to call her friend and no one came to check on us to see if all was well. It wasn't. The cottage is advertised with Wi-fi: to get any connection at all while we were there one had to sit on the bench in front of the neighbouring cottage, outside. Not ideal when its raining or dark out. There were many spiders in the cottage and I realize its in the countryside but reaching for a kitchen spatula and coming away with a hand full of spiders webs on our first night there put me off and made me wonder if it had been used recently at all and if so how could they have cleaned the kitchen and missed that? The beds were ok, the upstairs toilet didn't ever flush on the first flush so was amazingly frustrating and the shower only worked on cold so we were all forced to use the bath which is not easy to get in and out of for the seniors who were with us. There was none of the nicer amenities like a hair dryer for example. The freezer door in the refrigerator was broken (we repaired it with tape) so the whole thing was frosted up to the point a small tub of ice cream required 20 minutes of chipping ice to squeeze it in. The parking was difficult to figure out from the instructions we had been left. All in all this is not a cottage I would recommend unless you plan on sitting in the garden to read your whole vacation and don't care about the rest...

I am sorry that the cottage did not live up to your expectations.
We do advertise ourselves as being in a secluded area, an hour from Norwich and Cambridge. The rural mobile phone reception is patchy, and the Wi-Fi works better on laptops than some mobile phones.
We are looking into the problem with the shower as it had not been reported before.
At £470 for a week in August, we feel our prices are very competitive.

Loved the area this cottage was located in. Bluebell cottage was well equipped and comfortable. I loved the garden you could sit in and relax, beautiful spot. You need a car if you stay here but it was great to just drive to a lot of the little villages near this cottage.

“For Bird/Wildlife Watching Look No Further!”

The cottages are well equipped and very comfortable with a large back garden. They are on a secluded country lane providing solitude, peace and quiet. A very relaxing place to stay. The owners made us very welcome and the homemade flapjack went down a treat :-)

This is the ideal location for bird/wildlife watching with Lakenheath and Weeting Heath reserves just a few minutes away or closer to home, Otters, Kingfishers etc etc can be found just a short stroll down the lane. Even closer, just stand at the front door in the early morning and listen to the Nightingale singing!

A beautiful part of the country and a home from home to return to again and again.
