“Beautiful home from home, stunning location & fantastic hosts!”
Reviewed 7 November 2016 for a stay in October 2016

Maison Mirande is the perfect home away from home no matter what your interests are. The gits itself accommodated our large family group perfectly with plenty of space indoors & outdoors to socialise day & night but also enough space to have an early night whilst others eat & drink into the small hours. Kath & Paul have thought about every little detail and we found everything (and so much more) we needed to make our stay.

The gardens are the perfect place to relax with a glass or two of wine in the late afternoon autumn sun and top up the tan. As for the pool - perfect for serious swimmers, non swimmers & turning a group of grown adults into children splashing around on inflatables!

Gurs is a pretty little French village and makes for a relaxed holiday with plently of local walks to take in a bit of light exercise. For those up for a more active holiday just speak to Kath & Paul and there really is something for everyone! At the gite itself you've got yoga & swimming tuition and of course the cycling - Paul took our novice of the group out for a ride around several local villlages and Navarrenx which they thoroughly enjoyed!

Navarrenx is your local town where you can pop to for the essentials and a whole host of delicious treats from morning pastries, hams & cheeses to excellent wines from the local wine shop. It's also a beautiful town and well worth taking time out of the shopping to have a walk around and stop off for a drink.

If you want to go a little further a field you've got plenty of other towns a short drive away. One of our favourites was Sailes de Bearn where we stopped off to visit the salt spa. Gurs is also a great location for day trips to Biarritz and you it's also a very simple drive over the border to reach San Sebastian!

Cath and Paul really made the holiday for us as our hosts with plenty of suggestions of things to do and places to see. From our welcome with a delicious local dish on our first night and breakfast the next morning as well as all the suggestions with things to do and places to visit it was a pleasure to have met them both and enjoy a few evenings eating great food and sharing a bottle or two of wine.

Maison Mirande is a spectacular find and would highly recommend this to any groups or families whether you want to relax, discover France or get involved in many of the sports on offer.... Hope to see you both again soon :-)

“Simply the best”
Reviewed 31 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

This has been a most enjoyable and relaxing stay. The beautiful house, the lovely garden and the rural countryside has catered for everything; Life by the pool, early morning jogs on roller-coaster trails, cycling (Magnus is just one big win after each time he has been out with Paul) and lazy walks peeping into the gardens of the neighbouring houses and farms.
The pool has been the best amusement ever for the children. I swear they have webbed feet now!
We could easily have another week of this, the cheese, the wine, the ripe fruits, the ease of putting on your trainers and heading out.
I think we may have to come back next year to explore the surroundings.

“A truly beautiful house with wonderful gardens and probably the best pool we've ever seen.”
Reviewed 19 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Kate and Paul have renovated this house immaculately …it's beautiful. The house contains everything you would need and more!.
Although we felt thoroughly able to relax in the house and beautifully kept garden , the huge pool entices you to swim lengths ( yes really!) leaving you feeling better about the wine and cheese gorging later in the day!
(For those guests who are keen to develop their fitness, Paul is very happy to suggest runs, cycles and even accompany you. However, it is totally your choice and I'm afraid we chose the horizontal option of lying on sun beds by the pool!).

Kate and Paul are on hand if needed and are really helpful with advice about local events, restaurants etc but never intrusive.

I cannot fault this property in any way and recommend it most highly .

“Great Place !”
Reviewed 22 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

"We had a lovely time here in Gurs and surrounds. You are good company, great hosts and the house, garden and pool are fantastic. Bottom line, it's been great being here - very welcoming, very easy, a taste of life in France and something for everyone. Would we come back given half a chance . . . Yes!

Best shopping:
Wine - Le Cellier d'Heino in Navarrenx - good advice & wine
Cheeses, jams & bread -
Loved the goats cheeses & brebis from Navarrenx recommended by the wine shop, the cherry conserve with them and the bio breads from Navarrenx bio shops; long live la baguette cereale!
Activities & sport:
Swimming in the pool with tuition by Paul - an absolute game changer for us both in terms of efficient stroke and power delivery, with training drills from someone who is both qualified and knows what to do from real world experience - as his performances show.
Yoga with Anna
Fly-fishing organised by Kate
Day trip with picnic up to Col de Somport, learning of the history of the fort there, crossing into Spain, coming back via La Pierre St Martin. A great day (with swimming lessons to follow!)
Eating out: We tried the Auberge de la Fontaine at Laàs on Paul & Kates advice for lunch. Suberb! No question.
Camp de Gurs - Well worth a visit, brings history alive - Spain, France & WW2
Towns:
Navarrenx, Laàs & Oloron all lovely

So much more to do: skiing in the Pyrénées, fishing the Gave d'Oloron & other Gaves, running the trails, cycling the flats and hills, kayaking, rafting . . . more reading"!

This has been a great place for the whole family. Thank you.

“Gorgeous house, garden and pool and perfect hosts”
Reviewed 20 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

Thank you Kate and Paul for a wonderful week. We were an extended family ranging in age from 2-61 and Maison Mirande suited us all perfectly. We especially loved the garden and pool and there were days when we could not tear ourselves away and spent the whole day playing and relaxing in the garden and pool. But we did also enjoy the local towns and walks while our son really loved being put through his cycling paces by Paul. With 3 little children we did little eating out so really appreciated the well equipped kitchen and outdoor BBQ. A special thanks to Paul for rescuing us when we locked our keys in the car - your calm resourcefulness saved the day!
