Our second visit and it didn't disappoint. There is nothing about Les Palombes we don't love: the terrace, the pool, the countryside, the area (we even managed a trip to the Guggenheim in Bilbao this time). In short, a heavenly house, heaps to do, the perfect place for a wonderful holiday. We'll be back!
This is an amazing place, the loveliest of all the houses we've ever stayed in. Beautifully done up, enormous rooms, gorgeous pool and, best of all, a vast terrace that looks out over nothing but sunflower fields, trees and rolling hills, and the mountains in the distance. Sitting out there at night, looking at the stars, spotting bats and listening to the owls, is heavenly. The house is immaculate, with everything you need for a great stay, and a very helpful caretaker easily contactable by phone or email. If you can drag yourself away, there is heaps to do within fairly easy reach (you don't get that kind of view in close proximity to a town!), from cable skiing at Lac de Sames to paddle boarding and pedalos at Vieux Boucau on the coast north of Bayonne, plus kayaking, slides and giant inflatables at Lac de Guiche, go-karting, rafting and wandering round pretty mountain towns such as St Jean Pied de Port. It's a lovely part of France and we can't imagine a lovelier place than this from which to explore it.
