We stayed at Buzzard Barn part of Butterwell Farm and arrived on Saturday 19th June. The location is very rural with minor roads to the accommodation but wat a setting. With a commanding view over the small valley across the River Camel and onwards to the Camel Valley Vineyard on the South facing side of the valley.
Ample parking for vehicles outside and a good relaxing area to the rear.
The Camel trail can be accessed with a short walk along the River, across the bridge and on to the trail all from the land of the farm.
The cottage is and upside-down cottage with the bedrooms on the ground floor, which lends to views to be viewed from the upper floor and large bay window seats.
The cottage was tidy and ample space for four adults along with our four dogs, but with the weather so good we stayed outside most of the time enjoying the view and peacefulness.
The cottage has a bath and shower room and although a little dated both were clean and tidy and this did not distract us from our stay.
We met Sam on arrival who gave us some rules on the land and cottage a little advice on where to access the Camel Trail and surrounding area.
The cottage has access to the Camel River for fishing although on our stay this was only during the night for Sea Trout and the Salmon season was about to get under way, which was my only personal downside as I would have fished during the day but the river, season and species dictate the tactics.
In all a very pleasant stay, great surroundings view and great access to the local area and beaches not to far away. Would defiantly visit again and hopefully bring the weather with us again.
Location beautiful, views gorgeous. Plenty to do,see. Bathroom and shower disgusting, had dark blue bath etc, mixture of different taps, sealant black in lots of places, bath all scratched, leaking window in lounge woke up to puddle on sill. Electric socket coming off wall in bedroom. One cooker plate broken. Needed a good overall clean, grease on tiles and window casements, cobwebs and dead wasps on window and shelves. If you suffer from a bad back double bed will not be for you. All in all extremely disappointed advised owner of one or two things whilst there. Sam did say he was going to do work on barn, but that doesn't take away disappointment of current users. We have been self catering for a very long time and we can safely say the bathroom and tiny shower room were the worst we have ever experienced.
If you want an outdoors holiday - family and/or friends, then Butterwell farm is perfectly positioned. Fishing, walking, cycling all brilliantly catered for. Plus, to refuel the breakfasts are amazing and there are great eating opportunities in Padstow/Rock and beautifully positioned restaurant/pubs in the area!
Lovely location, super hospitality. Very clean and looked after. Perfect location for cycling, walking etc
We've just returned from a week at Buzzard barn. The cottage is located a couple of miles from Bodmin, has beautiful views from the lounge and spacious kitchen towards the Camel river and surrounding countryside and makes an excellent base from which to explore the local area. We visited Burgh Island, Plymouth, Newquay ,Padstow, Port Issac and the Eden project which were all fairly easy to get to. We brought our Border Collie with us and there were plenty of nice walks from the cottage.
A 15 minute walk from the cottage is the Camel Valley winery were you can sit on the terrace and enjoy a glass of wine which is handy as there isn't really a local pub nearby. They also do wine tastings at 5pm on Wednesdays for £15 which was a first for me but one which i'd recommend. Also about 15 mins away is a tea room which serve good light lunches and have plenty of seating outside in the gardens. Overall we really enjoyed our stay at Buzzard barn and would recommend it if your looking for a peaceful holiday that's ideally located for exploring. Just a final tip, there are extensive roadworks going on in Bodmin so please follow the directions that are sent by the owners and don't try and tackle the centre of Bodmin with the sat nav as I made the mistake of doing ! If you're thinking of taking bikes the camel trail is just down the road which is ideal for cycling. We hope to be back very soon.
