We attended a wedding and the whole event was lovely. The staff were on the whole very helpful and attentive. The standard of catering for our pre-requested vegan diet was excellent, although the lack of vegan bread was a minus. We really appreciated the effort the chef had gone to - to make it even better, a carbohydrate side order would have been perfect. Our room was fine, although as other reviewers have pointed out, there is no "user manual" or fire safety notice and the temperature was way too hot. it was a very hot spell, but I think the staff could have opened windows earlier in the day and drawn curtains. The function room likewise was incredibly hot - it had windows but they were kept tightly closed. I am surprised no-one fainted!

Dear Salterswall,

Many thanks for you review. I really appreciate your comments about the warmth and windows and curtains. I will feedback to the team.
The fire notices have all been updated with better graphics and clearer directions. You may have stayed during the swap over of signage.

I stayed two nights in this hotel with my boyfriend. Upon arrival we were quickly checked in and went to our room. Our room was clean spacious as was the bathroom. No mould in sight. As we booked this with a Wowcher deal we got a 3 course meal included on our first night and I have to say the food was amazing, we also ate there on our second night and the food was still to the highest of standards, just could not fault it.
The only con I would say was that both the Saturday and Sunday they had weddings on and even though there is a function room for the wedding party they use the same bar as all the guests and the bar not being massive could fill with wedding guests and you'd get a few odd looks and could be waiting 10/15 minutes for a drink.
But overall this hotel is lovely and would definitely stay again.

Dear Beth M,
Many thanks for your review.
We do have plans to add the resident only facilities, the Drawing Room and Restaurant are both away from the events but the Hotel Bar is a shared space. The wedding party knows this but I can understand your sense of intrusion whilst waiting at the bar. We have a cunning plan to re-instate a bar in the Restaurant and also to encourage more table service to be provided in the drawing room and restaurant after dinner service is complete.

Once again many thanks for your feedback, really useful.

Lovely building but severely let down by the rooms. No way to adjust temperature so very hot and air very stale, double bed was two singles (of different heights) zipped together, dated decor, hole in bathroom door and keyhole plugged with some type of tissue (?). Also no information on restaurant in rooms which didn't encourage us to go and dirty cutlery served at breakfast (though the restaurant was very busy following a wedding so this could have been because of other guests). Overall, adequate if you need somewhere to stay but wouldn't book for a luxury break!

Dear annieg92,

Many thanks for your review. I know it is taking us a while to get through the rooms, but we are completing the improvements and I can assure every available penny is going straight back into the property. We have had the hotel for nearly a year now and I can tell you there was a lot more work to do (money needed) across many aspects than we first hoped. As we get to know the old building and how it reacts to temperature changes comfort of guests has improved. We have also been changing the thermostatic valves in the bedrooms as quite a few were faulty and just turned around and around.
The drop in Breakfast standard seemed to happen during April and part of May, we received a few negative comments here for example. Meetings have been had and standards re-explained to the team.
It is often the simple things that make or break a service business such as ours so whilst disappointing to read your review it is helpful in gettings the whole to team to focus on the standards.

Many thanks for your review

Best wishes

It was a bit of an unusual stay, in some ways good. The original 1870 building is only a small fraction of what has been added to since. The majority of rooms are in a 1970s? add-on. The room was clean but no information available on room service, check-out times, fire exits or anything else that's usually provided. The bed was big and comfy. The view was of a steep, grassy bank. There's a nice terrace to sit out on with views over fields of sheep and no traffic noise which was really lovely. A wedding decended while we were here which seemed to totally absorb staff. The wine in the bar is frankly a bit rubbish, as is the beer. The staff were friendly however and the room was good value. I would stay here again.

Dear thestars,

Many thanks for your review. We are addressing the guest information and we should have this completed in the next month or so.
I'd love to know what wine and beer you had. Our cellar is not ready to stock Real Ale as yet, but do offer a full range of Stout, Ales and Lagers non of which are rubbish.
But I do prefer real ale and we are working on getting our cellar up to a standard to stock and care for real ale.
All the best

We singlestayed here on Friday 19th May after attending a wedding at the venue. It is a lovely, old hall but the bedrooms are desperately in need of renovation. Our bath had black mold all around the edges and a 1970s nylon shower curtain. The double bed was two zipped together which is fine but they were uneven heights which meant one of us was rolling down hill at times! The wedding reception room was lovely and the bar area was good . We stayed for the buffet breakfast which was nice but average standard of food. Overall, a nice setting but the rooms really let it down and at £90 for the night I don't think it is too much to ask to have a clean, mold free room.

Room Tip: One without mold

Dear kathryng152,

Many thanks for your review. I think we have sorted the bed and the mould in this room now. Obviously annoying that you should have experienced the mould, we are replacing old beds and mismatched issues. Our focus when we purchased the hotel was starting at the drive and working our way through the hotel, our focus now is solely the bedrooms and I think we are making good progress in that area.

Many thanks again and apologies for the shortcomings you experienced with your room.
