Booked lunch for wife , daughter and I . When I phoned to book they asked was it a special occasion to which I said yes it is wife’s birthday .

I arrived , there was a delay until we were able to order as there simply seemed to be very few staff.

We ordered and food was served . My flat bread was somewhat tough and chewy and my daughter’s chicken burger was very poor quality , tough and chewy.

I have then paid , was automatically charged £8 charge with a mention of a ‘birthday plate’ on the receipt , however we did not receive anything relevant to a birthday.

Room tip: Do not pay service charge.

    Thank you for your feedback.

I’m sorry to hear about the delays in service and that the quality of your meal didn’t meet expectations. We strive to ensure all our guests have an enjoyable experience, and it’s disappointing to learn we fell short on this occasion.

Regarding the birthday plate, this is complimentary at no charge and is only added to the bill to alert our kitchen to prepare it. I apologise that this was not sent to your table. If you could kindly share a copy of your bill with our reservations team, we will be happy to clarify what the £8 charge was for.

We value your feedback and hope to have the opportunity to provide a more enjoyable experience in the future.

Lovely location, we visited bar and restaurant. Nice atmosphere, and decor, good service.
Limited choice on menu, small portions needed all 3 courses. Steak at £38, veg and potatoes extra. Meal for 4 people, 2 had 2 courses, 2 had 3 2 drinks each including glass of wine at £16 each total £320.
Food, service good but won't go back due to excessive price

    Room tip: Restaurant expensive

My partner and I were looking so forward to staying at The St Brides hotel after the Christmas period, to celebrate our engagement. We had never stayed before and we will never stay again!

We have stayed In many hotels around the UK over the years, including the Celtic manor and Parkgate hotel (all part of the Celtic collection). The St Brides has always had such a good reputation but it totally lets down the Celtic Manor label/brand.

We arrived at the hotel around 2pm, to check in. Very dull and quiet atmosphere. We sat and had a drink in the bar overlooking the beautiful views of Saundersfoot. This is the only good point!

We hoped we could use the spa or sauna after check in but it’s only available to use once per stay as they have lot’s of spa day bookings which appear to take priority over residents at the hotel. This is not acceptable, just felt like they want to take your money but not give the best experience.

We then went to our room (cosy double). Couldn’t “swing a cat” in this room. We opened up our curtains with the hope of some sort of outlook after spending a lot of money to stay and was faced with a very small balcony and a 6ft wooden fence as a view. Absolutely devastated. Felt totally robbed. I’ve had better views from a travelodge over looking a motorway. Totally unexpected. Such high expectations, crushed from the onset.

We then had a dinner reservation at the restaurant in the evening. We got dressed up with the hope of a lovely night ahead with great food and drinks. My other half went to the bar and ordered a gin and lemonade and an alcohol free beer and was hit with a £20 bill. Wow! I’m not by any means tight with money, but this is ridiculous. Almost £17 for a gin and lemonade.

A set meal was a package that we had paid for this evening. To Start was a choice of Scallops, pigeon, octopus or goats cheese. I had the goats cheese at a push and it was a waste of time and my other half had the pigeon which was freezing cold and he was heaving when he put it in his mouth.

We then had the “Fillet steak” for mains (£8 supplement charge). The Fillet steak was £38 on its own. No sides and no sauce, this all had to be ordered and paid for separately. The “fillet” came and was absolutely tiny. My other half a I eat at up market steak restaurants regular and we don’t need anyone to explain what a fillet cut should be like. This was ridiculous, 3 mouthfuls and it was gone.

In the morning I had to put a 7:15 alarm on to get up for breakfast as the only time we could use the spa was 9:00 in the morning as there were no other slots available for the morning as spa day guests take priority. We never, ever take a night away from our children to enjoy the R&R and celebrate a special occasion and we had to be up very early just like being at home with our children.

I spoke to the manager on 2 occasions, and once when vacating and he was full of excuses and had an answer for everything rather than just putting his hands up and admitting that there are some major things that need sorting if the hotel is willing to charge the prices that they are. Times are hard, money is tight and you are charging top dollar for poor service. Never again will I stay in this hotel and I will be writing to the Celtic manor Team as we feel so let down by the whole experience.

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your recent stay. I am deeply sorry to hear that your experience fell short of your expectations, particularly during such a special occasion as your engagement celebration.

Regarding the spa, each guest is allocated one slot per night of stay, as we limit access to 12 people at a time to avoid overcrowding and ensure a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Please rest assured that resident guests are given priority for spa bookings, with a number of slots held specifically for their use. However, due to the spa's popularity among residents, we strongly recommend booking in advance to secure preferred times. I regret if this was not clearly communicated during the booking process.

I am also very sorry that your room and dining experience did not meet expectations. Your feedback regarding the room size, dishes and pricing has been noted and shared with our management team to identify areas for improvement.

Our goal is always to provide a relaxing and memorable experience for every guest, and I sincerely regret that we did not achieve this during your stay.

Thank you again for your feedback, we hope despite your comments we can welcome you back in the future.

So disappointed! Wanted to stay for such a long time & finally new years day we did. GOOD; Spa was lovely but really, it's all about the view. Only one session per stay? An hour day we arrived and before we left would've been nicer. Restaurant OK nicely presented food, attentive service but overpriced especially drinks. BAD; Ridiculously small, very warm room, limited sockets and a balcony facing a 6ft fence. Wanted to press a shirt, facilities provided but struggled for space and socket. Bathroom dirty, covered in hair. Bath mat same & mold stained. We book hotel stays away several times a year and this was the most we have paid for bed and breakfast as a special treat at Christmas. Dinner included, £350 for a mid week one night stay. I understand a refurb is on the cards. It's needed as is more attention to detail. Premium prices should mean something special and currently it's most definitely not.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed the spa and the views, though I understand your disappointment with the limited session time. We offer 90-minute time slots to ensure a relaxing, uncrowded experience with a maximum of 12 guests at any given time. We find this works well for most of our guests, but I understand it may not have fully met your expectations.

I’m sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the room. I can see that you booked one of our Cosy Double rooms, which is the smallest type of room, as advertised online. If you prefer more space, we would recommend considering one of our superior or deluxe rooms on your next visit.

Regarding the room temperature, our rooms are equipped with Dyson Cool fans, and the radiators can be adjusted to regulate the temperature. If we had been made aware of your discomfort, we would have been happy to assist and ensure a more comfortable stay.

I also apologise for the issues you experienced with the bathroom. These are certainly not the standards we are known for, and had we known about them during your stay, we would have immediately rectified the situation.

I truly appreciate your feedback, and I will ensure it’s shared with our team as we continually aim to improve as a business.

I rather foolishly booked directly through the hotel which meant I paid £350 for one night. For that amount of money you can get some VERY high level hotel bookings so my expectations were pretty high. Unfortunately, the spa area is not free to use at your leisure. you have to book a 90 minute session. At this price point the spa area should be yours to use at your leisure, plain and simple. The spa area is also quite small, one salt water pool that does have a fantastic view of the beach as well as a steam room and sauna.

The sauna area had a really foul smell, so unpleasant that it put me and my partner off staying there for too long. We also had issues with the bath and sink in our room not draining properly as well as black mould on the plastic bath mat. I'd usually not be too bothered by some of these issues but I'm afraid you simply can't have the standards slip that far for £350 a night.

I spoke with the duty manager about this when I left. She was apologetic and spoke about the future refurbishments and how great they are going to be. She also offered me a "complimentary upgrade on my next booking". At the time I decided to be cordial and simply say thank you to her and leave. A complimentary upgrade on my next booking didn't feel like a generous offer at all, again, given the price point they are setting. I did write an email to outline my experience and asked for at least a partial refund. I felt this was reasonable given how much I paid! A 50% refund would still have meant I was paying £175 for a pretty below average experience. This was refused and they said the complimentary offer was still there. Again, not a very generous offer at all! It shows me they really aren't willing to truly take accountability for the drop in standards.

A lesson learnt for me to check out the deals you can get on other websites but overall a really poor effort from St. Brides.

Room tip: Just don't pay too much for this hotel. They aren't at the level they think they are

Thank you for sharing your feedback following your stay with us.

I’m sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expectations, especially considering the premium price. While I understand your opinion on the spa access, we offer 90-minute time slots as we limit the spa to 12 guests at a time to ensure a relaxing, uncrowded experience. Most of our guests enjoy this setup, but I understand it may not have been what you were expecting.

I also apologise for the unpleasant smell in the sauna and the issues with the bath mat. These are certainly not the standards we aim for, and I regret that we weren’t made aware of these concerns during your stay, which would have allowed us to address them immediately.

I’m sorry that you were dissatisfied with the gesture offered to you upon check-out. The complimentary upgrade to a Deluxe Junior Suite with Sea View for the price of a Cosy Double, which provides a saving of approximately £200. I understand it may not have felt like enough in this case, but I hope this clarifies the value of the offer.

I truly appreciate your feedback and will ensure it is shared with the team as we continue to improve our service and facilities.
