We arrived for an overnight conference and were very pleasantly surprised by the standard of food in this 3 star hotel. Truth be told, we have had worse food in some 5* establishments. At our table, all but one (me) chose the pate and reports were favourable. I chose tomato soup which was perfectly spiced. For the main course, my partner and I selected the cod. Being from Japan, my spouse is extremely particular about fish and when I said that I was thoroughly enjoying my meal, his non-verbal response made me giggle and it was obvious he agreed. For pudding I chose an absolutely delicious pecan tart; kudos to the person who made it as it was not overly sweet. Praise also to the waitstaff who not only were attentive in terms of dishes being appropriately removed but also ensured wine glasses were topped up.
The breakfast buffet offered a good variety, with healthy fruits and yoghurts being complemented by copious amounts of the standard items found in a Scottish breakfast, the star item being a wonderful spicy haggis. One suggestion would be to have fresh orange juice instead of concentrate.
We found the staff to be very friendly if somewhat overworked due to lack of numbers. Our room was more than adequate, though for some reason the towels and snack indicated the expectation was single, rather than double occupancy.More
