Westerton Arms is a welcoming and busy pub on the main street in Bridge of Allan, so very conveniently placed. We had the special of the day which was ham and leek pie and it was very good, tasty and attractive. The vegetables were fresh and cooked just right, also potatoes. A good middle of the road experience and reasonable charges.

We booked the Westerton for a group of 17 for a leaving lunch.

Due to the numbers we were asked to pre-order, which we did. However, the day before coming we were told that the food several members ordered was not available because we’d ordered from the old menu...however it was still showing on their website! It seems like common sense to remove the old version, which we fed back and thought nothing more of it.

On the day (today), we’d booked for 12.15 to allow us to travel from the office. The first members of the party turned up about 12.05/12.10. Most appeared between 12.15-12.20. The last two people turned up at 12.25. Food didn’t begin to get served until 12.45/12.50 after being chased twice, and everyone who ordered soup didn’t get it until the mains turned up at 1.10. (The soup came in a coffee mug which by this point just felt insulting because it couldn’t take that long to heat up soup and put it in a cup...nor did they get spoons!)

When we complained, we were told that the delay was because we were “so late”. Considering that there were only 3 starters and 3 soups, the half hour / hour delay seems a bit much.

And to top it off....the tables were dirty when the first group arrived - sticky, streaked, with bits of dust/crumbs - that they ended up getting napkins and baby wipes and cleaning it themselves!

The only plus...once the food turned up it was actually pretty good and in a fairly decent portion size! Shame we were all so rushed we couldn’t enjoy it.

I knew I was going to be visiting BofA today, so last night thought I'd do a wee bit of research as to the best place for a lunch break. I was disappointed to read some of the poor reviews for the Westerton and had decided not to eat there today, but time was a constraint and the easy parking at the rear of the Westerton made it the easiest option in the end. We are so very pleased that we did end up at the Westerton. The lovely lass (long auburn hair) met us very cheerfully, and gave us a choice of tables. The menus were already on the table and we were immediately offered drinks and had the specials menu explained. We chose honey and parsnip soup for starters followed by the steak pie, and mac cheese, both served with a choice of rustic chips (beautiful) or garlic bread. The girl and her colleague (tall dark haired chap) were attentive without any unnecessary hovering about, and the tables and cutlery were spotless. We overheard the chef when we were paying our bill at bar and he was talking about being excited about buying a fancy new blender, so obviously someone who is passionate about what he is doing. All round, we could not fault. Okay, this is not Michelin style dining, however, it is worth every penny, and more, for a good hearty lunch, with excellent staff. Well done Westerton kitchen and waiting staff ! Heartily recommend.
