As tired travelers coming from the states, I chose this as our first stop because of its convenience to some wonderful historical sites in Stirling. Staff were friendly, and there was free parking, but it smelled and looked old and tired, as it once was an old grammar school dating from the 1850s. It has a somewhat stern atmosphere. Nice surprises for me were the spa and swimming pool. Don't forget to bring your suit, and get a massage after a long trip! Get your breakfast elsewhere as the one they serve is expensive, and not very inspiring.

We stayed for one night whilst travelling around Scotland. The hotel is well situated for seeing the many attractions of Stirling. The hotel has been created from an old school so the building and decor are interesting. We had a reasonably priced room which was large, clean and comfortable. The furniture in the bedroom is a bit dated and there is no air conditioning but everything worked well ( e.g.TV, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities) and we slept well despite some noise from traffic and seabirds!
We were served an excellent meal in the restaurant by friendly staff and we enjoyed our stay. It delivered what we required for an overnight stop.

Visited Scotland with my wife in February and used the Stirling highland hotel as our base.

I think you may have guessed this - the hotel is located in the quaint little city of Stirling - little city with bags of history and a couple of decent restaurants to eat in.

Geographically being based out of Stirling allowed us to see a number of historical sites located in the low lands of Scotland, the city is very central and pretty much equidistant between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The hotel has good spa facilities, a little bit dated but do the job.
The room is a decent size, not the biggest but certainly not the smallest, ours had a small second room with a bunk bed where you could put the kids.

We didn’t have an evening meal at the hotel, but the breakfast was very nice.

To sum up, a great little break.

This overpriced hotel set in an ex school was a disappointment. It’s redeeming factor is its central position ( 10 min walk to Stirling castle and a couple of mins to Holy Rude church)and easy parking. Carpets are thread bare in several places, rooms were not clean, towels smelt stale and seeing a grubby duvet lying around outside the laundry area over night did not inspire my husband and I with confidence.
Breakfast staff and breakfast were great.
This hotel has fantastic potential but as the school headmaster would have said 'you must try harder!

Pros:
Comfortable bed
Good value
Spacious room
Hair dryer and iron
Free parking

Cons:
Very noisy- we could hear people walking in the room above us, which kept us awake, and the door to our room was loud, so we couldn't leave or enter without waking each other up. In the morning, other guests leaving their rooms were extremely loud in the hallway.
It was too hot in our room, and there was no AC
