We found this restaurant by accident, just walking past and we thought we would give it try. It is a small restaurant run by owner/chef. I always think it is a good sign if you can see the chef cooking the food, which you can here. The menu was limited but we ate there 2 nights and had different food each time. What we had was extremely well cooked and plenty of flavours. The portions are just about right. The staff are attentive and the prices are reasonable. Really enjoyed the experience, highly recommended.

we like it here when the suns out but the service is a shambles, with the chef seeming to serve most tables, although one must say, the service is friendly, food is ok, reasonably priced, had a nice pork belly dish, but my boyfriends dish tasted stale as if pre-cooked and kept in fridge, will return as its not trying to be pretentious, but needs to become more professional.

Great menu. We were a little nervous at first as the restaurant was empty, but it soon filled up with many locals + travellers alike. I always feel it's going to be good food if it's somewhere the locals head to!

We have eaten at this restaurant many times. You are always greeted with a smile from the friendly staff and they look after your needs efficiently.

John the Chef and Owner knows how to cook!!...his food is always fresh and vibrant. He is passionate about his food and is always checking to make sure everything is ok. I like the fact that he can see his customers eating his food and enjoying it, as his kitchen cooking area is infront of you.

There is a lovely garden terrace which is an amazing sun trap, it is well protected from the breeze so even on a windy day it can be a very pleasant place to sit and relax.

So what does he cook?.....you can enjoy dishes such as Slow Roated Belly Pork, Local handmade Sausages, Guinea Fowl, Burger with Chorizo, steak, Fresh fish such as Trout, Sea Bass, Moules, Prawns, Scallops, they also offer ploughmans at lunchtime, Cajun Chicken Salad, nibbles such as Humous and Pitta Bread, Olives etc. You can even have a Devon Cream Tea or coffee.

All in all this is a real gem of a place for a reasonable price, so if you are visiting Ilfracombe this Bistro is a must for you!...enjoy....we do on many occasions!!
