Recently returned from a 4 night stay at this lodge. It is HUGE- 15 of us comfortably accommodated and plenty of nooks and crannies to disappear in. It is grand in some respects- ye olde world painted portraits hanging from walls, great long dining table that we really enjoyed and even a four poster better in the master bedroom! But a house also clearly challenging in terms of upkeep and keeping warm. Having said that, it is well kitted out with most mod cons- specially the kitchen and the DVD room to the kids delight. (Showers, if you want one, are through detachable rubber shower heads sitting in deep old bathtubs!)
However, what you really need to know is that the access in the last few miles is a narrow, extremely poorly kept private road. Potholes were numerous and often deep, making for a bumpy and hairy arrival in the gloom. When the snow fell, the road became treacherous- 2 out of our 4 cars ended up off the road, scuppering plans for skiing the next day, which was the main purpose of the trip! In summary, be prepared for a very slow and bumpy last few miles and if you're coming in winter, it's best to have at least winter tyres or maybe even snow chains as one of the cars did have winter tyres and didn't quite make it in the snow and had to be abandoned half-way!
We had a great time in and around the lodge (on foot or sledge) but the road, the road!
