I stayed at Glen Mona in September because the other hotels I wanted were booked. The Isle of Man can get very busy when there's an event going on, like the automobile rally that was scheduled during my visit. When I got to Glen Mona, which is relatively easy to do via bus from the airport, I was surprised to find that I had the entire basement apartment to myself. I hadn't asked for it, but either every other room was occupied or there was some mistake in the reservation process. I don't think I was charged any more, but I discovered that my rate did not include breakfast, so I had to buy that separately. There was plenty to eat. In addition to a few standard items on a buffet table, they had specialty items (like pancakes and smoked fish) that they cooked to order...in addition to whatever you wanted from the buffet! My only misgiving was that the apartment was really too big for my needs, and I felt like I was "rattling around" it at night. There were two bedrooms (one with two beds), two baths, and a living room/kitchen combination. I really just lived in the back bedroom and bathroom. The Glen Mona is about in the middle of the Promenade, and I was able to use the vintage horse tramway to get around. There is a casino two blocks north of the hotel, and Glen Mona guests can get a pass to use the casino's pool and hot tub. The casino supplies lockers, showers and towels with a refundable deposit, so I was glad I had packed a bathing suit. The pass is available at the pub that serves as the office for the hotel. Staff at the pub were very friendly. I'd have no hesitation staying at Glen Mona in the future
