We stayed here as part of our sun holiday obviously you do get what you pay for BUT our caravan was very clean and tidy we didn’t really use on site entertainment we went exploring the island instead, we choose you have bedding included in our stay and that was fine bed all made on our arrival. Was a good caravan site and I think we’d visit again, we don’t have children but it was half term when we went and the activities for the kids looked amazing.

Just spent half term on a Sun break, which I upgraded to central heating /double glazing . Had a van in Osbourne Grove . Furthest away , but lovely and quiet. Spacious
and very warm . Couldn’t fathom out the heating lol! Should have asked ! Staff helpful. Ate in restaurant and took grandkids in amusements and bar . Ideal base for visiting , lots to do . Have booked a lodge direct in their other camp , Landguard for next Oct . I may have a break with the Sun before then !

We arrived as a family of 3 for 3nights having been here b4 a few times we knew what to expect , check-in from 1 was good (platinum guests) we had a lodge in osbourne grove which in my opinion is the best location on the park with parking right beside and plenty of space between each dwelling, lodge was clean as expected spacious loved the 2 walk-in wardrobes and ensuite and seperate bathroom with bath , we ate on site the first night and found the food to be ok not great though , drinks are priced as expected £4:35 pint of grolsh 5:10 bottle of fruit cider , my little boy aged4 enjoyed the entertainment on Friday and sat night meeting some of the characters , there is a handy shop on site it’s ideally located for exploring the island we enjoyed the amusements on site and used the pool at the sister park (landguard) overall we enjoyed our stay at lower hyde and will return again some day

We rented a 3 bedroom static caravan for the weekend. We had several children with us from age 3 up to 12.

The caravan was well presented and very clean. It was modern and felt quite new. It was well heated and had enough utensils and crockery for our needs.

Literally nothing else was provided though - not even a teaspoon full of washing up liquid and not even a sachet of salt or pepper. No washing up cloth or sponge or tea towel - absolutely nothing. I don't think that a washing up sponge and a teaspoon full of washing up liquid to get you through the first night would have been breaking their bank. I understand this is a budget style of holiday but perhaps this is taking things one step too far - 50 pence worth of essentials would have made us feel welcome.

The bedroom beds were comfy enough. The settee in the lounge makes a double as well but this was really awful as it did not have a mattress or pull out bed - it was just the sofa cushions to be used to sleep on and it meant the bed was not flat and it was uneven. Very uncomfy.

The site itself is very utilitarian and unattractive - just straight lines of static caravans evenly spaced a bit like Army barracks all laid out in lines. No attempt at any landscaping just very basic.

The main bar area was OK and smaller than most other similar sites we have visited but that reflects that this is a fairly small site compared to others - so it does not need a massive ballroom. The toilets in the main bar area were dismal, dirty and desperately in need of maintenance. A lick of paint costs very little. They felt dirty and neglected. There was no soap in the gents. I told the staff at the bar about it but nothing was done that evening so every male that used the toilet that evening left the gents without using soap - YUK!!!!! That is a public hygiene incident waiting to happen!!!!!!!. I told them again the next day and I don't know if any soap was added as we did not use the gents again. It made us feel that the whole place was unclean and germ ridden - as it certainly must have been because every male in the place had unwashed hands by definition!!!!!!

The food was OK but not great. The lasagne was truly bizarre though and looked like some sort of strange hybrid cross between cottage pie and lasagne. It was minced beef in a strange brown gravy - no sign of any tomatoes in the sauce - with what looked like a layer of mashed potato on top however on closer inspection it was probably a single sheet of pasta with something resembling cheese on it. I thought lasagne should be layers of pasta with a mince and tomato style Italian sauce in between. Not this one. Just minced beef with a pasta sheet as a lid. The taste was peculiar and none of us could quite place it - tarragon and OXO cubes and bisto was the closest any of us could pin it down as........
The chicken wings were good though.
We were made to feel we were putting the kitchen out a bit when we ordered breakfast on Saturday morning. The lady seemed a bit put out that we wanted food because she said she had just cleaned the kitchen down. We asked her what time breakfast was served until then? She said for another 45 minutes!!!!!!!??????? Truly bizarre situation. We have never before been made to feel we were putting a chef out in a restaurant that was fully open and not about to shut!!!!!!!!!

Overall the whole site was all very quiet and felt empty as if 95% of the units were unoccupied. That was fine as we felt we had the place pretty much to ourselves.

The pool area was OK but a bit small and the water temperature was a degree colder than ideal. The kids did not mind but us adults were cold after about 20 minutes and wanted to get out. I guess it is not worth them paying extra to increase the pool temperature a bit when the site is so empty. The showers in the changing rooms were nice and hot.
The second day the pool felt colder still and I could only manage 10 minutes before I started to feel unpleasantly chilly.

We felt the life guards were overly officious and it did spoil the fun a bit. I appreciate that they have a job to do but also this is supposed to be a place for families to have fun and constant interventions for trivial things made us feel like the fun police were on duty here. We have stayed at a fair number of similar style sites and the regime here was by far the most oppressive. I would advise them to consider lightening up a little bit when there are only half a dozen people in the pool. There is a line to be drawn between safety and fun and at this site they did not achieve that balance very well.

The pool bar was OK and the staff were friendly. It was handy to be able to have a drink and play pool or darts and watch some sport on TV while also being just a few feet away from the kids in the pool and with no glass in between. I liked that and thought it worked really well.

Sunday was very disappointing because everything was shut for most of the day it seemed. There was nothing open to get any food or drink at lunchtime - the bar was shut, the cafe was shut and the shop was shut - all at the same time. Then the pool shut for a while as well. Luckily we had some food in the caravan other wise we would have had to drive off site to get lunch. This is a great shame when you have paid to come to a holiday park - would it be too much to ask to have one staff member either in the shop, or in the bar, or in the cafe for an hour or so around lunchtime?
I asked at reception and the lady just said that everything was closed until 4pm.

All in all it was just about an OK weekend but we would not return here again. Every other similar site on the Island is better than this one, has more to offer and feels better cared for and maintained. I would say this place is the very bottom of the pile compared to the other choices.

I can certainly see why it was so empty and quiet - you would not visit here twice. It is a great shame because it would not have taken much to massively improve the holiday experience here - but for as long as it remains neglected, tired and disjointed like this it will certainly struggle to get bookings when there is so much competition locally.
