“Durham Delight!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 February 2012

We stayed here for 3 nights in January - and 3 very cold days - but we need not have worried because not only did we receive a warm welcome, but our room was beautifully warm and the breakfasts heartening for the cold days ahead.
Durham is a lovely city, steeped in history, and there was plenty to do. There's an excellent restaurant within 10 minutes walk of the B&B (Finnbars) and another great find is Oldfields, which offers a 25% discount for people staying at the Victorian Town House. Also, because the B&B was handily close to the station, we took the opportunity to visit nearby Newcastle - only 12 minutes by rail.
Andy and Jill were attentive hosts, and had provided the little extras we had asked for (champagne and chocolates) on arrival. Our room (Flambard) was spotlessly clean and had a view of the park and cathedral. The bathroom was a good size with bathrobes provided.
All in all, we would recommend this lovely little boutique B&B when visiting this lovely part of the country.

Booked a short weekend away with my wife at very last minute. Excellent value for money and very welcoming and communicative owners. Only a short walk into the city centre makes this the ideal place to stay in Durham for couples who want a friendly and comfortable break away from home! Would love to come back soon!

We stayed at the Victorian Town House in January 2012 for three nights and it was wonderful. Andy and Jill were very welcoming and friendly right from the first enquiry email, and on arrival provided very good advice especially on places to eat. Our room (the Beaumont Room) was beautiful - as was the whole hotel. Breakfast was excellent, with a great range and very good quality - especially the black pudding stack! Thoughtful touches like a well stocked tea tray and free, fast, secure wifi demonstrate the care that has been taken over every aspect of the hotel. Overall, can't recommend the Victorian Town House hotel highly enough, and we would definitely return.

Situated a short walk from the Station and the City Centre we were lucky to secure the parking space in front of the house. Otherwise, on-road parking may prove less straightforward. However, if needed you are given vouchers to cover parking charges. A cup of tea was offered and came with cake in addition to mints and biscuits in the room - welcome after a long drive. The house is beautifully furnished, the colour combination in our room was particularly attractive in addition to all the usual amenities offered by larger 4* hotels. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower did it's job efficiently. Towels and bath robes were soft and comfortable. A little exterior noise from the nearby railway but unless you are a country dweller not enough to disturb. Breakfast was superb with a large imaginative choice and more than sufficient to allow lunch to be skipped! Conversation with the owners was easy, informative (for the previous night's dinner) and overall a real pleasure. At more or less the same price as a chain hotel this location has loads of character, the same if not a higher standard and a genuine personal service.

Room Tip: I think ours was the most expensive, on the second floor and faced the rear - worth evry penny!

We stayed at the Victorian Town House for two nights in early January for a joint birthday treat and we were not disappointed.
We stayed in the Flambard room with a view of the cathedral. The room was very nicely decorated, modern and uncluttered. The bed was very comfortable and the ensuite was very well fitted out with a powerful shower, nice toiletries and fluffy towels and bathrobes. The room was warm, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The tea tray showed some nice touches such as herbal tea, nice biscuits and bottled water.
The breakfast room was also nicely decorated making for a relaxed breakfast. We were treated to fresh fruit, coffee, a lovely choice of both cooked and continental breakfasts which set us up for a good day.
Andy and Jill were really friendly and greeted us with a cup of tea and made us feel very welcome in their lovely home.
We would definitely recommend this b+b and wouldn't look anywhere else if we needed a b+b in the area in the future.

Room Tip: Flambard room has view of the cathedral
