“Perfect weekend”

Myself and immediate family were in area for family weeding, and needed somewhere to stay. I found the cottage and thought it would be good, turned out to be brilliant. The cottage was spacious, comfortable and filled all our needs. We had a great weeding and then spent the rest of the weekend walking in the beautiful area. Only problem 3 nights wasn't enough. Would revisit again.

“able to cook pasta in one large saucepan!”
Reviewed 3 April 2015 for a stay in March 2015

As a family with four teenage sons, it was great to have all the equipment required to self- cater; all too often I have to use 2 small saucepans to cook spaghetti...at last, a cottage with a large saucepan! We had Yorkshire weather...snowstorms one day, sunshine the next; but this cottage was so lovely and homely, with plenty of space, that the snowstorm wasn't an issue. Oh, and after renting cottages, as a family, at least 3 times a year for the last 10 years, this was the first cottage to supply loo roll for our whole stay...no counting the squares on the last day to resist buying even more. Gorgeous home made lemon cake, with milk in the fridge on our arrival. Enjoy

“A Superb Holiday Cottage in Teesdale !”
Reviewed 8 November 2014 for a stay in October 2014

We had a family weekend at Red Lion Cottage for a significant birthday celebration, then (after they left) I was joined by friends for the rest of the week walking in the area. It is a great cottage in a picturesque village, with easy access to some wonderful countryside and nearby towns. The accommodation was warm , spacious, clean, well-appointed and very good value for such a large cottage. Plenty of room for everyone to sit around the dining table or relax in the lounge, and the bedrooms were very comfortable. We will gladly return for future family gatherings.

“Great value, comfortable accommodation”

Stayed here with a group of friends to celebrate a 30th. Everything about the place was fantastic. The owners had left us loads of helpful bits and pieces like a bottle of milk and coffee/tea. The rooms were all well decorated, fresh and clean. The kitchen in particular with the massive ovens and loads of hobs was fabulous when cooking for a crowd.
The pub next door is friendly and there are loads of walks nearby to explore the countryside.
The courtyard with table and chairs was a really useful space for the smokers among us. It was a shame the rain was tipping down so we couldn't make the most of it.
I would heartily recommend this cottage for a group of friends or a family get together. Unlike other houses and cottages I've stayed in, the owners were really generous with pans, cutlery, glasses etc. It was a home away from home and I'm considering booking it again for this year which isn't something I would usually do.
