A colleague was moving to a new post so a drink was organised for him at The Schooner in Gateshead. As someone not familiar with Gateshead apart from the Stadium it was a trip into the unknown and what a brilliant pub it was. Situated down the road from the Stadium next to the Tyne it is a big, smart and very busy pub even at 3pm on a weekday. My husband would love this pub, live music, pinball, food and great choices of beers and lagers, he would have been in his element and is looking forward to a visit. I tried the cheesy chips whilst our company had nachos as the main reason was to drink to celebrate our colleagues new job abroad. Staff were friendly and again I wished we lived more local as this is the type of pub that myself and my husband would feel comfortable in.

Booked a table for 8 for Sunday lunch. A basic place but the food and staff more than made up for this! Meat was in nice thick slices, beautifully cooked and not fatty. Served with plenty fresh veg, gravy and a Yorkshire. Some of our party had puds, and again very good - all homemade! Would definitely go back and also want to try their 'regular' Mexican menu!

Booked a table for 4 of us early on Sunday Morning and got a timely reply via email - Lunch was very good in deed - Starters were really tasty and the Sunday lunch with a choice of Beef Lamb Pork or Chicken was thoroughly delicious and plenty of it! Vegetables and Roast Potatoes were cooked to perfection and the meat and Yorkshire Pudding were all you could ask for - Staff were friendly and attentive and service was excellent. Will definitely be back when we get the chance!

Visited the Schooner on Sunday in our quest for a good Sunday lunch in Newcastle area. The pub is sort of in the middle of no where but only a 30 min walk from the quayside. Great selection of beers and ciders. The sunday lunch was fantastic - nothing fancy - just really well done. Probably the closest thing I have had to a proper home cooked sunday lunch. The kids portions are every generous. Service is very friendly and efficient. They also have live music and a nice little area outside for listening to the bands and enjoying a drink in the sun. Will be back, a lot.
