The hotel enjoys fabulous views and it's an easy stroll to town.
Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The lighting system is not at all user friendly. So complicated. It was impossible to put the bathroom light on in the middle of the night without ALL the lights coming on. Four zones which seemed to create flashing disco lights if you pushed the wrong zone. When asked at reception if everything was fine with our stay I did give feedback about the lights. Dissapointing that my feedback was not taken on board. Instead the receptionist immediately went into defense mode negating my experience. Perhaps some staff training is required here. If this is the customers experience don't argue the point!
The restaurant staff were friendly but the food somewhat hit and miss. Tempura prawns were tasty. The lobster mac and cheese just plain awful. Breakfast was fine, as expected. It was a pleasant stay but I don't think I would return.

The Salcombe Hotel has an enviable location on the edge of the estuary with views out to sea however make sure you book the right room if you wish to take full advantage.

Rooms are tastefully furnished and the free gin and sherry are a welcome addition but mixers are chargeable items from the mini-bar.

Spa is compact but clean and well laid out with sauna and turkish rooms.

The let down was the restaurant menu which in its table d'hote form does not change from day to day. This would not be a problem if this menu was extensive but it is not.

The a la carte menu provides additional options but for the starters is heavily weighted towards seafood.

The quality of the food was reasonable but uncooked chips had to be returned on the first night and the chicken with lobster sauce was frankly a bit weird.

Final point to mention is do take your own face flannels as these are not provided !

Staff were as others mentioned attentive and helpful but one does get a sense that the owners are more driven by economics than high standards

Room Tip: Check outlook carefully

Having read a mix of reviews about the Salcombe hotel, we we're intrigued to see how this hotel stacked up against other great experiences we've had with the Harbour Group in Brighton, Guildford and Southampton.
With a location as stunning as this, and the general standard of hospitality in Salcombe, we were surprised to read some negative reviews. Our experience was fantastic from the outset, the service was first class, the hotel is in beautiful condition, the spa fantastic and the food and drinks in the restaurant lovely. From what we had read, it's clear to see that they have listened to feedback and made changes. Even if you're not staying at the hotel but are in the area, it's a highlight for food, drinks and if you have time, an afternoon in the spa. A really great experience.

Stayed for a long weekend break. The level of service was first class, and the location itself left nothing to be desired. We had fully intended to visit local towns but spent the entire time relaxing in Salcombe and the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and for the quality of food in the restaurant was above expectations

This is our second visit this year and we are pleased to say how much it has improved this time.
We found the staff much more friendly and although we only stayed for one night we would certainly stay longer next time.

Our room was very clean and spacious with a very large balcony over looking the estuary, a perfect view.

We look forward to our next visit.
