Food quite nice, but somewhat rowdy, and ran out of beer. I used to go here 20 odd years ago, but it seems to be quite noisy these days.

Stumbled upon this place whilst on a work related trip to Warrington. We were all hoping to get a nice steak and the building looked fairly inviting from the outside. One of the lads said it was a Wetherspoon's so we decided to give it a try. When the young girl behind the bar refused my colleague a pint for having no ID when he is 28 years old I knew something wasn't right with this strange place. I understand 'Think 25' and appreciate she was only doing her job but really he was 28. Went to order my mixed grill and the same girl said that they had no eggs, baring in mind this is supposed to come with 2 fried eggs I asked what she was going to substitute them with. 'Nothing' was her reply, ok so how much are you going to discount the meal then? 'I'm not' but I am paying full price for something which is incomplete, 'yeah we don't do anything for that' I was gobsmacked. Normally I would have walked out at this point but the others who managed to get a pint were still drinking and had ordered their food. I sat there thinking this was a really weird place including the staff. After a short wait the food came and the same girl was delighted to announce that the chef had given me some extra onion rings as a replacement for the missing eggs. Wow! my night was complete. The food was average, the steak was tiny and tough, the lads also left most of their food too. We couldn't wait to leave this place and vowed to never return which is a real shame as the building is absolutely beautiful from the outside in. Not given such a negative review lately but this place positively deserved it.

Such a pity this beautiful old building is ran by completely incompetent staff. Dirty, food way below standard and grumpy staff. Certainly would not return until Stonegate Pubs are no longer running it into the ground.

The staff at the bar were good, but the food came out completely wrong mash was rock hard, gravy was like water and when complained staff were rude and argumentative, do not recommend this place my 10 year old sister can cook better than this
