We had last night our diner at this hotel. IT WAS DELICIOUS!! Rooms were perfect aswell and on there standards.... Superb place!

The chef prepared some nice Roast and Potatoes for us and very mouthwatering desert.

Surroundings pleasant
Seated quickly and offered canapés whilst browsing extensive menu
Canapés although plain were the best part of the meal
Only 2 starters selected-Carrot fritter with Hallouim-tasteless.Chicken livers- plenty but tasteless also
Main course-2Wild mushroom risotto,dreadful...wet and glutinous.Asked Waitress for more Parmesan cheese hoping to give it some flavour,to be told by the blonde waitress that it was already added to the dish!!! Asked the other waitress to bring some and she did.. but alas , still tasted alwful.
Steak- ok
Duck-Jus,to much and over powering
Fish ok not exceptional-Chips-cold
Desserts-Crumble with berries, custard and ice cream... crumble burnt... best was the ice cream.
Pineapple tartan-ok
Wine- excellent
Pianist- excellent
Absolutely dreadful meal.... will not be back

The hotel seems to be out of the city but it is just 2min by car to the city centre. The place is clean for being in UK. The owner was very kind. Beer at the pub located into the hotel building was very nice.

We like the hotel and have visited several times. Normally the food is excellent but a real howler of an evening sadly.

Canapes and pre drinks:-
why not serve everything on a tray at the same time, and offer cocktail napkins. Too many olives -a small bowl would have been better-canapés average, used to be excellent

Menu:
Some offering 'off' or not as described
Starter:
Scallop Dish-Black pudding too large, for £9+, 3 tiny scallops don't warrant the price!
Main:
Vension.....poorly executed, the pastry too wet and the roasted vegetables....too much carbon and so everything had a burnt taste to it.
Desert:
Pear.....impossible, microwaved or similar and rock hard!

Shame as they were trying and the pianist was good. Lighting too bright. This venue has so much potential but tonight was a major disappointment and for the cost over £40 a head, its just not worth it.

I do wish them well, as I understand how tough business is, but some improvements are required. My guests and I were very disappointed.

A good choice if staying in the area. The rooms are a little dated and unremarkable but clean and comfortable with good ensuite facilities. Breakfast was good and quickly served from ordering. Hotel had just changed hands and struggled to process payments and provide receipt on checkout but I am sure this was a teething issue.

Convenient for town but nothing special.
