“What a gem - cosy, clean and very comfortable!”
Reviewed 22 April 2015 for a stay in March 2015

We stayed at this fantastic cottage for three nights just before Good Friday. As soon as we opened the door on arrival, to be greeted by a lovely fresh aroma and a cosy warmth, we felt right at home. The kitchen/dining room was well equipped with everything you could need and we really enjoyed sitting at the dining table eating a relaxed breakfast whilst listening to the retro Bush radio. The separate spacious lounge - most unusual in a holiday cottage - had the most comfortable sofas and chairs ever - I could happily have spent the whole holiday curled up there with a book! The quaint and quirky bedroom was very comfortable too, but watch out for those characterful beams if you get out in the night!
It was such a treat to find a truly dog friendly cottage, without reams of rules about where the dog can't go. Our old Border terrier slept happily beside the heater in the kitchen and loved her walkies on the village green just outside the gate of the cottage. North Newington is a very pretty and quiet little hamlet, with the local pub being very conveniently situated just across the green from the cottage. As a base for exploring the district, this would seem to be perfect and we were sad that we could only manage three nights away.
Mary was the perfect host - she left us to ourselves but was easily available if needed and was very friendly and approachable. We will certainly use Herrieff's again next time we are heading to the Cotswolds and Oxfordshire for a break!

Liked best: Relaxed warm atmosphere.
Liked least: The deep steps down to the lovely lounge - maybe the addition of a non slip carpet on these would make them less difficult.

Lovely cottage not far from town and easy to find using Sat Nav. Cottage very cosy and homely with a large living room space and good size kitchen with all the things you would expect in a kitchen. Bedroom spacious and clean with very comfy bed. All kept very clean and tidy. Perfect for our short weekend break.

“Cozy Cottage for Christmas”
Reviewed 7 February 2015 for a stay in December 2014

My Mother and I stayed at the cottage over Christmas - it is exactly as it appears in the photographs, situated in the lovely village of North Newington, just outside of Banbury. It is spacious and cozy and we really enjoyed our stay here. Mary, the owner, is lovely and very welcoming - a Christmas wreath on the door, a delicious fruit cake and fresh flowers just added the finishing touches. For the first time ever I was also able to take my 3 Siamese cats (most holiday cottages are reluctant to allow dogs, let alone cats ).
My Mother is elderly and has dementia. There are steps down into the lounge which she found difficult and needed help getting down, but the small staircase up to the bathroom and bedroom she could get up and down unaided.
There is parking in the courtyard, but being Christmas there were family and friends visiting next door and I had to park elsewhere.

“Comfortable, cosy cottage”

VERY comfortable bed, cosy, relaxing living area, well equipped kitchen and lovely welcoming fruit cake on arrival. Wi-Fi reception is not very good within the cottage.

I do think that the owners should mention that two dogs are resident within the shared parking area. We didn't mind them but others might. Also, as the owners were away the week we were there the mess the dogs inevitably produced was a bit of a problem. A neighbour was letting the dogs out in the morning and putting them in at night and cleared up after them at night for the first few days of our visit but for the last two days a different person was seeing to the dogs and didn't clear up so by the time we left there were two days worth of dog mess to step around.

“Perfect cottage, located in an idyllic village.”

A very comfortable and characterful cottage. Extremely well presented with everthing you could possibly need to make you feel at home. The wonderful fruit cake, baked by the owner Mary was a lovely gesture and gratefully received. Located in a pretty village which is surrounded in beautiful countryside. This makes it an ideal base for anyone who enjoys walking. My dogs and I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the local area. Banbury is only a few minutes drive away and it has a good choice if shops, supermarkets and resturants. I can't wait to return for another holiday in this perfect Cottage.
