The staff we're great and the building is filled with historic character, particularly the downstairs lounge area. Rooms themselves had standard amenities but the furnishings were a little worn and could be updated. Fine for a quick stopover. Fantastic breakfast selection, including full English and Vegetarian options.

Clean hotel, but there is no elevator so if you have a room on the upper floor, travel light. Very friendly and helpful service and staff. Right across the street from the castle and close to shops if you need something.

Across from the castle is this old inn. The place has retained much of its yesteryear charm with the necessary updates. A beautiful garden out back too! Service was great and helpful. For the older less mobile traveller the stairs might be a challenge, but the offer was made to bring our bags up to the room.

This is a lovely old hotel with plenty of unique features. We walked through the lovely back garden to reach our rooms in the annexe.
Basic but comfortable rooms.
Very good breakfast. Staff are welcoming and helpful.
No evening meal and not many good restaurants in the town - we ate in wither spoons which is adequate.

We were a family of 3 (2 adults and !$ year old girl) booked in for 3 nights as we were attending a family wedding at Caldicot Castle. The setting of the hotel is lovely and parking is in the pay and display opposite. Sunday parking is free but we struggled to get parked as I think there was an event going on on the Sunday at the Castle or nearby pubs. The building was gorgeous and as this is an old building it is expected that it would have uneven floors, low ceilings etc. The original oak staircase was absolutely beautiful (and my husband, being a joiner, admired this. The stained glass door leading to the garden was also beautiful. The beds were clean in the room we stayed in and they were made up each day too. We had to ask for more towels but these were bought to us straight away. What did cause us a few issues was getting ready for the wedding. There were only 4 plug sockets in the room and not one of them was situated near a mirror so getting ready for a wedding was not ideal. The mirror that was in the room had a light above it but the bulb had gone. When we asked for a replacement we were told it was an old design and they would try and sort us a lamp or something, We didn't get this so we ended up doing our makeup on the window ledge (as the room was very very dark) near the kettle point so we could use straighteners etc! The dressing table (which had the mirror with the light that didn't work) was tucked away next to the wardrobe but as the room had beams and one small window it wasn't really useable. Note to myself always pack an extension lead! The bathroom was clean but there was sign of mould in the shower tray so I showered in flip flops! The room we were allocated is not shown in any of the photos and seems to be an inferior quality to others shown but to be fair it served its purpose but as it was in the attic it was very dark .The staff were very very friendly and gave us taxi numbers as we were heading into Caldicot. and it looked as though effort had really been made in the downstairs reception and bar area. Breakfast I was worried about, especially as the food hygiene rating was only a 1 but we decided to give it a go and the breakfast was delicious. Don't get me wrong I was not expecting all mod cons and high spec as it is an old, historical building but maybe this room just needs a little updating. Room 6 overlooked the back of the hotel and the pub garden.

Room Tip: back facing room in the attic was very very dark

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry about the lack of light above the mirror which has now been replaced with built in sockets for hairdryer / Straighteners so thank you for brining this to our attention.

Our hygiene rating does not reflect our standard, we had issues with paperwork at the the time of inspection, we are now hoping for a score at the opposite end of the scale when the council return to rescore.

Our shower cubical sealants are charged regularly but they continue to discolour. We use anti mould sprays with every clean so we can ensure that there is no need to wear foot wear in the shower.

Kind regards
