My husband and I have just returned from a 3 night stay at the above hotel. The booking was made through our local coach company and whilst staying there we made a visit to Canterbury and a day trip to Bruges via ferry from Dover to Calais. This was our second visit to the Grand Burstin and we noticed some differences from our first visit about 2 years ago. The hotel now belongs to the Britannia chain and we could see that some improvements had been made in the hotel decor, such as new carpets and a lick of paint in the bedrooms. The bed was lovely and comfy and after requesting a sea view we had a lovely view over the harbour. The room itself was spacious enough to enjoy two armchairs with a small table in between so that we could sit and enjoy the view. The old fashioned TV needs updating however. Could only get 5 channels. This was surprising as I thought that most places now receive digital TV. We decided to upgrade from the Harbour restaurant to the Victorian restaurant (£5 pppn) and enjoyed a more peaceful and upmarket experience, even though the food was of a similar quality to the Harbour restaurant. The food was plentiful and varied so no quibbles about that. We did notice that the entertainment was mostly in-house and although the dancers and singers are very proficient they could not provide the variety which visiting cabarets used to do before the changeover to Britannia. We did enjoy the 2 piece duo, Horizon, who unfortunately only played for dancing for 2 hours each night. They were brilliant. The cabaret bar is very large and has a beautiful dance floor, so full marks there. The bingo each evening offered good prizes, provided enough people participated, which mostly they did. There are 4 lifts servicing the hotel so no long waits for them. All in all I think the hotel offers a good value and I would recommend it mainly for adults but not many facilities for children.

Room Tip: We have had a harbour view both times . We were on the 5th floor and I think the higher rooms probably have the best view. We were not disturbed by the road in front or from other residents.

Just returned from a fabulous weekend at this hotel. What a bargain. We had super rooms at the top looking out over the sea. Three couples all next to each other. We were pleasantly surprised at the standard of the rooms. Very clean, beds lovely and comfy and linen beautifully laundered. Clean towels each day. A bottle of wine in the room and tea and coffee making facilities. We were premium and ate in the Victoria dining room and the food was exceptionally good. The staff in the dining room couldnt have been more helpful, getting everything we needed or asked for and we cannot thank them enough. Apart from the weather which we cannot control we were very impressed and all for £109 per couple. Will certainly use it again. Many thanks. The Cyprus Gang from Bedfordshire.

Room Tip: If you want a good view go for 734 5 6 etc.

We have just got back from a 4 day break and we were glad to come home.On the plus side, the bed was clean and there was plenty of hot water, but the bathroom was dirty and the room had recently had a smoker in,
.The balcony had signs of smoking. The corridors also smelled of smoking and the room and corridors were in need of refurbishment.
The dinning experience was awful. It was like going into a works canteen, the food was mediocre to poor ( the last evenings food was awful ) and the breakfast was ok if you liked very greasy food. We did not take advantage of the entertainment or bar we found a lovely little pub near by.One of our party acctually booked a smoking room, I thought this was elligal.
Never again.

Room Tip: I think you can pay extra to up date to another room

This hotel has been a smokers paradise and then the nicotine has never been cleaned off.
The decor can be overlooked but NOT cleanliness.... that is the least one can expect.
The food wasn't good either.... some things can pass as ok... like the peppered steak and the steak and mushroom pie.... but the MASH ... I just don't know what they did to it !!
All the tables get is a quick wipe.
At the bar we had seven goes at getting a clean glass !! (all smeared with lipstick)
All the smokers stand outside the main door ... so you have to go through this "FOG" ...
Not nice at all.
Also the hotel is on the seafront .... BUT.... this area is VERY run down.
Don't go on these coach trips unless you can put up with the 'moaning minnies' who gripe about everything and everybody.

Room Tip: We asked for a low floor as my husband has trouble walking.... they gave us the SEVENTH floor ????? However... they gave us a family room ... which was spacious (the only good point)
