Stunning walk along The Leas. An absolute must, beautiful views over the beach and a lovely walk down the zig zag path at the bandstand to the beach.

There are rumours and tales that the coastal park is rife with nuisance kids drinking and smoking weed. This might be the case of an evening but there is no sign of it during the day, neither the youths, nor remnants.
The approach past the harbour is a mix of chic cafe, nice harbour and water jets in the ground, amongst some run down houses that would have been lovely once upon a time and the grand burstin hotel which has also seen its day.
Sadly the tram lift at the end of lower Sandgate road is broken and looks drab, which is indicative of the trip in, however there is plenty of parking which depending on which you use is £1 per hour upwards.
However ...
The sea front is nice, clean, pebbly, but without anything too captivating. Dogs are allowed September to April.
Behind the sea front/ promenade is the coastal park. This is picturesque with paths up to the town and well kept.
Within there are 3 play areas which have various wooden climbing frames; a mock sunken ship, a rope spider web and a large castle with zip wires, slide, turrets and bridges.
There's a reasonable looking cafe near the end but we didn't venture in there.

We take our grandchildren ages 4 and 6 here all the time. Great experiences for them and all for free. There are wonderful flowers and shrubs and wildflower places and stunning sea views. There is always something to look at. We highly recommend this place for parents and grandparents who do not want to spend a fortune but want their little ones to be safe and active. It’s not often you get a facility like this for free
