The views from Castle Hill are probably among the best views of anywhere in the country! The stark contrast between the views overlooking Huddersfield to the North, and the Holme and Woodlands Valleys to the South and West, and everywhere inbetween, is stunning.
It's a lovely place for children to play, as there are large, flat open spaces of grass, and good footpaths around the hilltop with benches and information boards dotted around. There is also a good sized car park.
We always park on Lumb Lane and walk to the top, as driving to the car park at the top can be a bit precarious if you meet a car coming the other way, as the only road up is a very narrow, single lane, not built for cars. It's worth noting however, that there are no refeshments available nor toilets at the top, but in Summer there is an ice cream van parked on Lumb Lane.
It's worth going up the Tower when it's open (should be on Kirklees website) for (at the time of writing) £1.50 for adults, 50p for children and £3 for families.
