Description: Nestled inside a five-star hotel surrounded by acres of parkland, the Wernher Restaurant offers a spectacular setting for every-day dinners and special occasions alike. Named after one of Luton Hoos most distinguished former owners, the dining room features marble panelwork, opulent fabrics and sparkling chandeliers that wouldnt look out of place in the Palace of Versailles. The restaurant was recently awarded two AA Rosettes and has been praised for its creative use of local, seasonal produce. Head Chef Kevin Clark specialises in modern British dishes like Dover sole with sauce grenobloise; roast breast of guinea fowl with sweet potato gnocchi; and fillet of beef with beetroot dauphinoise. With exquisite food and flawless service as standard, the Wernher offers an unforgettable dining experience.

We booked a table for 6 and gave 3 weeks notice of my Mothers dietary requirements and requested a sole dish off one of the online sample menus.

Unfortunately on the evening of my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary there was no sole available or seemingly any record of our request reaching the kitchen. After I explained the situation the manager did apologise and eventually knocked a bottle of wine off the final bill however that's not really good enough.

What is the point in asking customers if they have any food allergies or intolerance if the reservations team don't speak to the kitchen or bother to get back to the customer to discuss alternative arrangements?

On the whole the food was good but at nearly £500 for the meal the evening should have been perfect.

Went Sunday 25th February 2018 as a party of four. Superb main house with the food and service being excellent.

It is not cheap and although they say men have to wear and jacket and tie most of the men around us were not wearing ties.

First visit to the Werhner Restaurant and it will not be the last. The welcome was warm and friendly, the setting simply stunning and the service efficient. We visited for a three course lunch. A choice of three starters, mains and desserts. The food was excellent and very well presented, the wine menu was extensive and there was something for all tastes and pockets. The cheese board was very impressive as were the mains of Guinea Fowl and of Stone Bass and the goat's cheese and beetroot starter.

Overall the setting and the food made the lunch good value for money.

One minor criticism was the cost of the coffee and petit fours. Unrealistic for half a cup of coffee, without refill, and would explain why two of the other tables by us took their bills and left after desserts. Something we will do next visit which will be quite soon.

Location: Luton Hoo mansion house hotel

Atmosphere: high end looks. There are not many restaurants that can rival the Werhner restaurant for the looks. The restaurant became busier over the years and they squeezed extra tables into the place which makes it less special.

Service: highly professional and adequate for such a restaurant. Occasionally I found it a bit slow, but I was never in a rush.

Food/Drinks: they have a very fine bar outside of the restaurant and the food has changed over the years. Initially it was more home-cooked stuff and now it goes more into the direction of fancy Michelin star type of restaurant, but it isn’t there yet.

We've been visiting this restaurant almost from the first day it opened which must have been about 2007, we only visit this restaurant about twice a year; birthdays etc. It's a dining experience, particularly to start and finish your dining experience in the main public rooms with the piano being played. It is fine dining, not necessarily at it's best but not far off. Considering it's a dining experience in this grand and impressive looking hotel, it's fairly good value for money compared to other hotels or restaurants of similar priced meals. Over the years, the food quality and choice variations, particularly for vegetarian food has altered considerably, for the better from our most recent experience I am pleased to say, which will encourage us to return more frequently. It is a dress up smart restaurant so usually worth putting on a jacket and tie for the men, although not essential. The food this time around was perfect, we had beef and a veggie option, which for once was presented as well as the meat options. I've had cause to complain about the lack of imagination of veggie food in the past but not this time, several tasty options available. Service from the staff is fine for the type of restaurant, again has varied over the past 10 years, not sure we were made to feel special for a 5* hotel but it was fine. It did take a while to be served at the beginning for drinks but once in the system, it ran smoothly. All in all, we love going here. Looking forward to the next 10 years.
