“new years eve 3 day trip”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 January 2014

We arrived at around 15:00 hours and the reception process was quick and easy.
We entered our silver bungalow at 16:00hrs, the room was poor and smelt damp and had to been aired for some time.
We are a large family 5 kids and we had a friend with us so we needed an 8 birth.
The curtains were stained badly so were the carpets, the whole bungalow looked tired and depressing really - we found wrappers pushed down the sofas and a small slug on the sofa as well.

We had the mindset that the room was just some where to sleep so that was our way of getting through the shabiness of the whole unit.

The food was really good quality and plentifull on the standard food plan breakfast and evening meal.
Staff were very caring friendly and accomodating in most areas - just wish the bar staff paid even a slight amount of attention to who is next waiting at the bar - our experience was who shouts loudest gets served next , this was really frustrating, shame really.

swimming pool was great fun and well equipped.

Entertainment was very good.

All in all very reasonable - shame about the rooms.

Hi there.

Thanks for taking your time to review your recent break at Butlins.

I’m pleased to hear that you and your family enjoyed the food and amenities and found our team to be so friendly. However, I am sorry that you feel disappointed with your accommodation. I can assure you that the standard you describe is very unusual and not representative of a Butlins apartment. I hope that you raised these issues with our Guest Services team whilst on resort.

It would be great if you returned to Butlins in the future for another holiday! We would certainly love to see you again.

Many Thanks,

Danny Rich

We arrived home last night, after spending 3 nights here with my husband 3yr old and 15 yr old, and a group of friends.. we did enjoy it the staff are faultless, friendly, work hard, always smiling...food in basic dining was ok, always something to eat..my only down side was having to queue from 2.30 to get a seat in centre stage at new year, to later be told 300 tickets hsd been sold earlier, unknown to us..so we still had terrible seat.. very disappointing. Plus it was last weekend of season so even tho we were sent a letter saying7ng resort wasfully booked, they were running of of everything... I.e beer, any cocktail ingredient, kebab meat.. toilet rolls in main skyline... on and on.overall would go again, lots of fun for tots, not so good for teenagers unless you want to spend fortune in arcades.

Myself, my wife and 2 year old son went to Butlins Minehead for a 3 night stay at new year. My sister in law goes every December with her family so we thought we'd join them.... First of all, it really isn't as bad as some reviewers like to make out, I was more than a little apprehensive after reading some peoples reviews on here, some even likening the standard accommodation to a concentration camp! We stayed in standard, which was the basic food package, breakfast and dinner. The room itself was surprising, double bed with all the usual furniture, even an iron and ironing board! The other room had 2 single beds and the bathroom a bath, which I believe you could get a shower adaptor for although we didn't bother. The water was hot, the bath was clean as was pretty much all of it. Bed was fairly uncomfortable but for 3 nights was bearable. Food though, not so good.... I would absolutely recommend upgrading to the premium dining package, admittedly I'm a fairly fussy eater, but the choice of dinner was poor, it's a canteen type situation so the food isn't hot, the drinks weren't great either, very weak juice and the tea was awful! Breakfast, slightly better, but again, warm and dried out within an inch of it's life from being under the lamps.
For kids, the entertainment is amazing. There's always something going on, lots of stage shows involving different characters, soft play, swimming, arcades, bob the builders yard with lots of rides. Just brilliant! However, loads of walking involved so make sure you have lots of warm clothes and comfy shoes if you're not going in the summer.
Night time entertainment was also good, lots of tribute acts and discos etc, couldn't believe how reasonable the bar was, thought it would cost a small fortune but was pretty standard really. Pizza Hut, Burger King and those types of things fairly pricey, but even the spar wasn't ridiculously overpriced!
Customer service at the bars and pubs onsite not great, seriously need to work on this.... Guy working behind the bar at one of the pubs accused me of not knowing what cheese was after cocking up my tuna melt order. Unbelievable!
Blonde girl in the ocean drive food court was lovely, made a big effort with everyone, in a family resort you need friendly outgoing staff, not miserable mizzogs that drag their feet like the bar staff in Reds on New Year's Eve, far too interested in pretending to be a poor mans Tom Cruise in Cocktail or just being generally slow and rude.
Overall, probably wouldn't do another winter visit or new year as I am still freezing and picking silly string off my clothes! But would definitely go back in the summer....

My husband and I went to Butlins for the New Year. Best New Year we had had in a long time. The entertainment was excellent with trbute acts to Jessie J, Oily Murs, and Madness and more. We purchase B-Line Passes which gave us 15 mins entrance to Centre Stage or Reds before other people. They are a must. We went premium dining which was very good. Would go again.

Room Tip: Pacific Wharf chalets are near to skyline and dining hall
