Stayed at the HI after competing in a obstacle course nearby. We were greeted by a friendly and helpful receptionist who checked us in quickly and was able to allow us to park despite there being no spaces.
The room was spacious and clean, the shower was large and worked well and the bed was fairly comfortable, if a little on the small side.
After showering we headed downstairs for dinner - we were tired and didn’t fancy going elsewhere. Food was very mediocre and clearly frozen which we half expected however we didn’t expect to be charged £5.95 for 4 frozen cheese sticks served with a pot of cream cheese?? The mains were okay but again very expensive for the quality.
We slept okay - there was a fair amount of noise which we assume was down to thin walls! We headed down for breakfast the next morning. The choice was highly disappointing - hot food consisted of scrambled eggs, beans, bacon and sausage which were all below average. There was a toaster, selection of cereals, stale pastries and mini muffins. Overall the breakfast was fairly disappointing and personally I would rather it be an additional cost for some quality and not inclusive and poor.
Overall the hotel served its purpose to us, somewhere to shower, sleep and eat, ultimately it’s a holiday inn and you get what you pay for - average at best. More
