Description: On the edge of the old Manchester to Oxford Road stands The Romper, an old coaching inn welcoming patrons through our doors for over 400 years. With its charming, whitewashed, slate-tiled exterior and rampant lion roaring above the door, The Romper is a former coaching inn, tucked away on a old country lane, on the edge of Altrincham. The Romper is also just a stone’s throw from Manchester Airport, making it a perfect stopover, whether you’re exploring the local area or about to take to the skies. Offering easy access to Cheshire’s lovely villages and towns, including Hale, and Wilmslow, as well as some of the county’s prettiest countryside, Sat in the lovely beer garden on a sunny day, surrounded by leafy lanes, it’s hard to believe how close you are to one of Europe’s busiest airports. In winter, when the log fire crackles in the hearth, and pints of cask ale are being poured under the old-beamed ceilings, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were in a rustic county pub

It was a last minute decision to eat out today but I am so glad we did. We chose The Romper as we have always had a good experience there and they are better than other local eateries we have tried.
They were quite busy when we arrived but were quickly shown to a table. Service was quick and very helpful. There was so much choice, covering all ages and tastes. The staff were attentive at all times, without being in our faces. The food was awesome - the best mixed grill ever. The steak was so tender, the black pepper sausage was really tasty. I couldn't fault a thing.
The prices are very reasonable and the restaurant itself is gorgeous with the old beams and brickwork. We like sitting outside for a few drinks when the weather allows but it was a bit windy today.
Thank you Eric, Bruce, Sue and Mike (and the kitchen staff) for making a simple meal out into something more memorable.

A Chef & Brewer establishment with a nice beer garden and decent menu, including a pretty comprehensive 3 courses for £14 offer, this place looked to be a promising find within walking distance of the horrible food of our hotel.

Food was average, reasonably well presented but on the cold side. The staff, although very cheery were obviously overworked, and service was painfully slow as a result. After waiting 40 minutes for our main course plates to be cleared, we moved inside (it was dark and cold by now!) and reminded the waitress about our desserts. Eventually we were told that 2 of the 3 ordered were not available, so we got a refund for them and left.

What a shame.

Met friends here for lunch today the food and service were excellent as usual and the friendly staff even found time to make our dogs welcome too. Cannot recommend too highly and already planning our next meet up there later in the year.
