We had lunch here which was served hot and was delicious. The staff were especially pleasant and friendly.

Garden centre itself had a lot of choice with primroses, snake's heads and other plants and trees.

This in our opinion is the best garden centre we have ever been to. It has everything here. Everything is of quality here. Allow 2 or 3 hours for your visit, longer if you use the restaurant which is superb. The food hall sells a fantastic range of top quality products and s lovely butchery department. Quality guaranteed plants as well. We're looking forward to a re visit

The restaurant was much improved as far as table and seating and reserved signs mean you definitely have a table. Pity the food does not match up as our gourmet sandwiches arrived on only half a baguette with some chopped tomato etc covered with small slice of parma ham (£1 extra) small amount of humus and a few decorative bits and pieces of salad. With two black coffee this was 20p short of £20!! The garden centre had a beautiful display of spring flowers all in the best of condition - lots of choice and we did buy plants but lunch was a big disappointment - maybe gourmet means something different at Houghton.

This place is pretty good has a clean restaurant and café, clean and good for disabled. Food hall has a great selection of food too but in general the place is expensive. The craft area is average nothing to shout about and the gift and garden centre is reasonable. Prefer Barton Grange Preston

Often wondered what this huge centre was going to be like as we passed by on motorway.
Wonder no more...... overpriced and food decidedly average.
Tuna mayonnaise and cucumber sandwich £5.99 served on lookalike slate with a little dressed salad. Two slices of dry bread with a dollop of fairly dry mayonnaise and a slice of cucumber cut at a jaunty angle.
Sharing platter for two, £14, came on two separate serving plates consisted of 2 mini pork pies, chunk of Stilton, slice of pale, dry ham, few pickled onions, black pudding ( cold) salad garnish. On another plate were two crusty bread rolls , the type you buy par baked- and a couple of portions of butter.
Can't recall price of drinks but the Illy branded cups and saucers, in my opinion, are a scald hazard. The round handles are difficult to grasp and saucer middle is raised. Was a juggling act to put hot drink back on saucer without spilling - I failed .... then you have to use two hands to lift cup. Grrrrrrr....
The restaurant wasn't that busy on our visit but we observed the waiting staff avoiding clearing a nearby table which had been left in a dreadful state by previous customers that had allowed their children to throw lots of food from high chairs. Shame on them for not attempting to pick some of their own children's mess up.
Can you tell we'll not deviate from motorway in future?!
