We had been looking forward to eating in the Crown & Anchor on the Friday of the spring bank holiday weekend 2021, about 2 weeks after the pubs were allowed to reopen for indoor catering.
We had previously visited in December 2020 and enjoyed a great meal with attentive staff.
On our repeat visit, the place was freezing with one door permanently open and the other door opening and closing every couple of minutes.
We waited and no one came to bring us a menu or take our order, although we had reserved a table.
Eventually, I had to go to the bar and ask for the menus.
The menus were brought to our table but nobody took a drinks order and we had to wait until they eventually came back to take our food order and only then could place our drinks order.
The food itself was nice, but we weren't given any serviettes or cutlery and I had to go to the bar again to ask for them.
After our meal was served, staff visited our table a couple of times to ensure that all was ok.
The manager was very nice and helpful and was the same guy who we met in December, but the serving staff seemed very inexperienced and we were under the impression that we were witnessing organised chaos.
A relaxing meal it was not and we left after the main course and after only one drink as a drafty platform at a train station would've had equal ambience and warmth to the Crown & Anchor on that night.
